Spent most of the evening setting up the books on the book shelves. There are still some boxes left (mostly school books and gaming) and a few books that I need to fold into what's up there (as well as some that seem to be missing). Still, it's coming along:

Dear people who were walking thier dogs behind my apartment this morning,

It was nice to see your dogs all playing so nicely together. However, that area is not a dog park. All dogs must be on leashes means that the owners should be holding the other end, not letting it trail after the dog. Furthermore, please pay attention to see if someone is walking down the path and make an effort to control your dogs so they do not all run up and surround said person and block her way. While many people love dogs, some are nervous around them, especially three at the same time. Also, after said person has walked by, please have better control over your dogs so they do not try to follow her as she walks to the bus.

No love,
me

My work has a Farm-to-Work program.[livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I decided to participate this week. I just picked it up:

Not sure how we're going to eat all that, but it looks tasty. Already have some ideas for the zuchinni.

The Frenchman is visiting me this weekend, which is awesome. He flew in yesterday. Last night I took him to Kerby Lane Cafe for dinner and then we met up with [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and [livejournal.com profile] gailmom at the Spider House and when to The Burlesque For Peace. The show was a lot of fun. Some of the performers were really good. After the show I drove the Frenchman around a bit of downtown Austin.

This morning [livejournal.com profile] gailmom and I snuck out and brought back breakfast tacos for breakfast. This afternoon the Frenchman and I took a walk around my neighbourhood.

Right now the three of us are at the Salt Lick waiting for a table. Since the wait is really long, the Frenchman and I went over to the table where some people were selling Girl Scout cookies. When they saw that the Frenchman had a beer in his hand, one of the mothers mentioned that Shortbreads go well with beer. Sometimes I love Texas.

Just got fired. They said I "didn't fit in" with the organization.

I'm going to get pie because pie makes me happy.

Jury duty

Am currently sitting outside of a courtroom at the courthouse. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I have been called in for jury duty.

I'm actually excited about this (and a little nervous). I was thinking this morning about it. At first I was hoping that I wouldn't be called. Then I realized that in some ways this is actually a sacred, as well as civic, duty for me. I have concidered the goddess Athene my patron goddess in many ways for a long time. I even use her name as my own at times (this LJ is a good example of that). Therefore, to take part in the justice system is, in a way, honoring my goddess.

Oh, just found out that they won't be needing our services. My boss already said if we get out early to take the rest of the day. Time to go home and prep for people coming over for dinner tonight.

Bus fears

Nov. 14th, 2008 07:42 am
athene: (blow to the heart)

I have a fear of getting on the wrong bus and ending up somewhere I don't want to be. Almost every time I get on a bus, I triple check the number. However I'm often not 100% convinced that I'm on the right bus until it makes a specific turn or two that assures me that I'm going the right way. This is especially true when I'm at a bus stop that multiple buses stop at. It can be rather nerve racking at times.

I'm pretty sure this fear stems from my first day of 1st grade. I had gone to kindergarten in NYC, where my parents were able to walk me to school. For first grade we were back in Ithaca. I remember my parents bringing me to the near by school bus stop which was where my friend Ben also caught the bus. I remember them telling me that Ben would help me get home. I remember getting on a bus after school was over. I have no idea why I picked that bus. It was probably the first bus I saw. I'm not sure why Ben not being on it didn't clue me in that it was the wrong one, maybe I thought that he was going to get on after me. Of course it didn't stop in the "right" place. Luckily it ended up at a playground somewhat near my house that I recognized and I was able to call home (or someone called for me) and have my parents come and get me. After that my parents dropped me off and picked me up from school pretty much every day until high school, where I was successfully able to ride the bus to school.

Ten Years

Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I celebrated 10 years of being an "official" couple. That's about ⅓ of each of our lives. Pretty crazy. And to think it all started with me answering "Sure, why not." when he asked me to "go out with" him.

It's funny to think that we met at a Vampire LARP and our first "official" date was to RHPS. I'm not sure if that set the tone of our relationship, but it sure makes a good story.

We actually celebrated on Saturday night by going out to diner at Kobe Steakhouse where, thanks to his mother, we were both able to order the Kobe steak fillet mignon. OMG, they were amazing and left both of us in food comas!

I don't have anything to say that he hasn't heard a million-and-one times before. So I'll simply say, To Jonathan: I love you yatches and yatches.

Testing the LJ app for iPhone.

I was going to write a really long posts about the BCB and Ren Faire and parties, brownies, pie, and Kobe steak, but I ended up spending most of the day on the couch with a heating pad. Damn cramps.
