Although I was sick on Yule, we had our Yule celebration (somewhat muted) anyway. We got our Little Prince his very own R2D2, which made him very happy, and a few other toys and books. He also got some Duplo from us and from his West Cost Grandparents.

Oh Boy! It's R2D2!

We had some friends come and help us wrangle LP so we could prepare for our very first plane trip with our little prince. On Christmas Eve we flew to Massachusetts to visit with Darius’s family and some of our college friends. LP handled the first leg of the trip just fine. His ears didn’t even bother him. Half way through the second (and much longer) leg, he started saying “all done airplane.” It’s very hard to explain to a toddler that we can’t really stop and get off of the airplane right then. At least he fell asleep for the rest of the ride soon after that.

First time on an airplane. This is his "cheese" face.

It snowed overnight here in Austin, TX.

Being Central Texas we are completely unequipped to deal with this sort of weather. [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith didn't have to go into work today. My office is opening at 10am, but we were told that we shouldn't try to make it in if it looked bad and to work from home instead. I tried calling my chiropractor's office to see about my 10am appointment and got voice mail (they usually open at 7am on Fridays).

Here are some pictures of the massive amounts of snow that is shutting down the city.

Snow on my neighbour's trampoline

Our car through the bedroom window

Snow in the backyard (through the only window I have that doesn't have a screen)

Was in the 70s last weekend. Should be back into the upper 50s/low 60s this weekend.

Edit: we let the cats out. They actually wanted to go out and didn't want to come back in immediately, which surprised both of us. Here are a few pics of them.

Natasha wondering what this cold wet stuff is on the ground.

So, back when it was snowing in Austin, I tweeted as Austin writing to Massachusetts. [livejournal.com profile] circusrunaway responded. Since then we have been having a conversation between the two places. Here is what has been said so far:

December 4, 2009
Dear Massachusetts, why are we having your weather? Are you willing to trade back? XOXO Austin, TX.

Dear Austin, TX. Our snow ran off without permission. Please return, ASAP. Sunny weather as a reward. Love, Massachusetts.

Dear Massachusetts, would love to. It may take a day or so to gather it all up. XOXO Austin, TX.

December 5, 2009
Dear Austin, Thank you muchly for returning our snow so promptly. We hope your warmth will arrive just as quickly, but...
this time of year, with the post offices so busy, you never know! Xoxo, Massachusetts

December 6, 2009
Dear Massachusetts, Glad you got the snow. Post office is slow on delivery of warmth. Says should be in by Tues. XOXO Austin

December 7, 2009
Dear Massachusetts, There must have been some mistake. We seem to have Seattle's weather. Waiting for sunshine. XOXO Austin

Dear Austin, Many apologies! Something must have gotten mixed up. Did Seattle receive your package by mistake? <3, Mass.

Dear Mass, Don't think so. Post office was sorry for mistake. Said should be cleared up by Wed. Here's hoping. XOXO Austin

December 9, 2009
Dear Mass, Looks like you got your snow back. Did we order too much for you? Got our sunshine. Still waiting for heat. XOXO Austin

Dear Austin, Thx for the snow. It's just perfect! Looks like Seattle got our extra cold. Hope heat reaches you soon. Xoxo, MA

December 10, 2009
Dear Massachusetts, More post office mix-up, I think. It is colder out here than it is there. XOXO Austin

December 13, 2009
Dear Massachusetts, We finally got our sunshine and warmth. Took the post office long enough! XOXO Austin, TX.

I plan on adding to this post if/when we write more so it is all in one place.

Yup, it's snowing here in Austin, TX. And for real snowing too. Like you look out the window and there's a lot of it coming down. At an angle. But it's not sticking/melting when it hits the ground.

When I saw the snow I tweeted:
Dear Massachusetts, why are we having your weather? Are you willing to trade back? XOXO Austin, TX.

My favorite response so far (from circusrunaway):

I wonder if they'll cancel school tomorrow as well...
edit: yup, they did

SNOW DAY

Well, due to "ice pellets", it appears that school is cancelled for tomorrow (and possibly wednesday too). All this for "ice accumulation less than a quarter of an inch." I think that it's pretty funny considering that nowhere where I worked or went to school in the past 8 years would have even blinked an eye at that sort of weather. We would have been told to "drive carefully and plan for extra time" but that's it.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I have done lots of the cleaning and setting up that we REALLY should have done when we moved in, but didn't have the time. We've gone through pretty much everything and only have a few things left in the "where the hell does this go" pile. Also, we've gotten more stuff up to decorate our walls. hell, maybe with my extra day off, we'll even get the study decorated (oh, how happy I will be).

Also, we found out that because our apartment place subsidizes some of the cable bill, it wasn't that much more a month to get a DVR/HDTV converter. Made watching the Saints game really great because I could go back and relook at things that I missed. Also, we have it set up to always tape Mythbusters.

I have painted my nails black and gold for my boys. I just hope they don't freeze too badly when they play the Bears.

I have FINALLY finished Jacqueline Carey's The Sundering duology. Very interesting. I expected to be in absolute tears by the end, but I wasn't. Just sad, and pensive. Of course, this came after much screaming and yelling at the characters and not being sure which ones I wanted to succeed.

Kind of sad, actually, that I don't have class tomorrow since it would have been my Digital Libraries class, which I'm very excited about. Well, maybe I'll start on the next book on my list: Doppelganger by Marie Brennan.

So, it's Spring Break.

Guess what it did today? SNOW! Argh!

Gamed on Saturday. Was good. Am now a 6th level Cleric. Finally got over the 35xp i needed. yay!

Met Nayone's dad yesterday. That was strange, but i think it went well. I was a little worried when he showed up and 3Gs parents were around, but it all went ok. yay yay. Swan hurt his ankle and so Aerith drove him to the hospital and the Brewery gave us our lunch for free b/c of this. that was cool, but not cool that Swan hurt himself. Watched Sybil on tv. was really good. I have to read the book one of these days.

today has been kind of bleh. I've worked a bit on my paper which is good. I have a lot to say, but sometimes i just can't seem to express it right. blerg. Watched the boys play more of "Grand Theft Auto 3" Amusing, but kind of stupid. makes me bored.

bored bored bored bored bored. i wish there was something more interesting to do besides watch tv/movie/video games, try to work on paper/play on line, and eat lots of chocolate. i could read, but i don't really want to right now. bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored. blerg blerg.

At WAG. Made a new pic from my Senior picture. Made it my default. It changes all the default pics in the past. kind of annoying like that. oh well.

Don't want to leave. the weather sucks out. must leave. have run all of my errands. walking to the stables wasn't that bad after all, but the weather got sucky on the way back. it was snowing nasty stuff that hurts. ran into Nayone in the Bookstore. Was the thrid time i had seen her, but the only one where i didn't plan to run into her. hey, i had a sucky morning. i am alowed to go out of my way to make myself feel better.

Must go now and start on homework. Have to go to the library and read something for class. Am NOT walking to Stop and Shop in the snow!

friday - the SSFFS meeting was fun. We got to talk about cons. Dinner was shit so a bunch of us went to davis. when ks was about to get food, Amythyst and I said "nope, sorry, no food for you, you're not allowed to order anything." To which BM told ks "don't worry, you can have as many tic-tacks as you want." hehehe
Saw The Children's Hour which was directed by Austin Pedleton. It was pretty good. I felt the first act was a little flat which made it hard to really get into the other two acts (which were actually very good).

Saturday - got up late *G*. Read some Winter's Tale. Fell asleep while Aerith made dinner. :) Went to UMass to see The Diary of a Madman. It was EXCELENT! Absolutly amazing!!!! When we left the theatre it was snowing! I couldn't stop laughing.
When we got home we watched the snow and watched The Usual Suspect which Aerith had never seen before. He liked it, but I knew he would. It's so different watching it a second time.

Sunday - did homework. got my observation report done. it's crap, but it's done. finished Winter's Tale. Weird play. Waited for Flip, but due to misscomunication we never met. I hope it goes well today. Started reading about Peter Brook. He hung out with Crowley! Weird shit (I bet i'm one of a few people at Smith who would read his Memoirs and know who Crowley was). Had to share with someone. Called Rock, but she wasn't home. Called Brenna. She was home. We talked for a while :) Typed up some of the lines the greek test is going to be on.

Overall - semi-productive weekend. My toe hurts less and less every day. I am walking with almost no limp now. Love Aerith. Spectre is cute when he's not a brat. want school to be over. too much to do.

left to do:
edit Observation report.
Study for Child and Adolecent Growth and Development Exam.
read about Peter Brook and write 5 page paper on him.
work with Flip on Brook and our scene.
Study for Greek Exam.
write 10 page paper for Comedy and Romance on yet-to-be-determined subject.
