athene: (hi how are you)
It snowed overnight here in Austin, TX.

Being Central Texas we are completely unequipped to deal with this sort of weather. [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith didn't have to go into work today. My office is opening at 10am, but we were told that we shouldn't try to make it in if it looked bad and to work from home instead. I tried calling my chiropractor's office to see about my 10am appointment and got voice mail (they usually open at 7am on Fridays).

Here are some pictures of the massive amounts of snow that is shutting down the city.

Our car through the bedroom window

Snow in the backyard (through the only window I have that doesn't have a screen)

Was in the 70s last weekend. Should be back into the upper 50s/low 60s this weekend.

Edit: we let the cats out. They actually wanted to go out and didn't want to come back in immediately, which surprised both of us. Here are a few pics of them.

So, today [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and i finally decided to leave our apartment (after spending the last several days iced in) to run some errands.

Problem the 1: The car was coated with half an inch of ice and silly us, we'd thrown our (broken scrapers) out when we moved down here and never replaced them.

Solution the 1: Let the car run for a really long time. Use fists to break up ice. Help others do the same (end up with soggy gloves in the process).

Problem the 2: Roads are clear, ice is melted, but Texas drivers are still really freaked out that there might be ice and they don't know how to drive on it. And, the on ramp to the second highway was closed.

Solution the 2: Take alternate routes. End up in lots of bad traffic anyway.

Problem the 3: In addition to bad traffic due to driving and lunchtime, garages around campus (that we tried) were full. This ends up shattering what was left of our calm.

Solution the 3: Decide that I can run some errands on my own tomorrow. Run the rest of errands somewhere else. Bad traffic is mostly avoided and errands to Credit Union and CostCo are run without a hitch. We are much calmer and happier for it.

Problem the 4: We're getting hungry.

Solution the 4: We bring the stuff in from the car, at which point I mention to [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith to look out for the ice on the edge of the step (this is important for later). We eat lunch and then decide to walk to PetCo and Barnes and Noble b/c it's not really THAT cold out and the stores are close by.

Problem the biggest (5): Remember that ice from earlier? Well, I didn't. I step onto the edge of the step and Whoosh, boom. I'm down on my ass. And it hurts. A lot.

Solution the 5: Realize instantly that nothing is broken and really it's only my ass that hurts. Walk to B&N anyway. Walking it out actually helped a lot.

Problem the 6: B&N doesn't have book I was looking for.

Solution the 6: Buy book Aerith was looking for, skip going to PetCo due to slow walking on my part, and I can buy the book tomorrow on campus.

And that, was my day. Of course, the left side of my ass is still rather sore and not that much fun to sit on...(yes, yes, I know...but this time it's an uneven feeling...and don't even suggest what you're thinking now, you dirty perv).

Ummm...it's snowing out. Enough to give the ground a light dusting.

Here is the view outside the study window:

Ah, it's so beautiful out today! The weather on my dashboard says 66. I love my wireless internet. Here I am sitting outside writing this post, talking on AIM and listening to music. It's warm but not hot and just a slight breeze. *contented sigh* Of course, I forgot to unlock the door when I went out, so it's good that I can contact [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith over AIM to let me in :). Technology really has taken over our lives.

I dressed "corporate goth" today: long sleeve black shirt with a bit of a tie-up front and ruffles on the sleeves, long black flowey skirt, black boots, new black shawl, anhk and black crystal earings, black chocker, eye make-up and lipstick. Everyone was like, "wow Athene, you look really good today." Some people got the goth thing. I felt so comfortable. Like I could show people a bit of who I really was (instead of normal happy corporate person).

Nine Inch Nails concert tonight. So excited.

And, DISFUNK PACKAGE CAME TODAY!!! (Disfunk is my really cool second-cousin who's into sci-fi and fantasy and knows lots of writers and sends me awesome things like signed copies of books and stuff)

Well, [livejournal.com profile] artemis42 is here, so I should go help her move stuff.

So, just as it's warming up and everything is growing, the evil men are out cutting down tree branches. The sight of it almost made me cry. The poor trees!!! But I took a piece of one with me and put it near my altar.

in other news, I HAVE A SUMMER JOB!!! I'll be working at Desktop Tech for Smith helping them clean computers (hardwear and physical) and set up new ones and things like that. Only sucky thing is that it's a 8am-4pm. i'm not an 8am type of person. oh well.

And...I was walking back and forth across campus today. First to Stoddard, then to the Helen Helen Hills Hills Hills Hills Chapel Chapel, then to College Hall and now i'm back home, but from this came the JOB and the knoweldge that the chapel is giving ASP lots o money for our retreat! yayness. and then i got to talk to [livejournal.com profile] webchicky at the WAG (where i rested from my back and forths) and found out that she has an interview with MTV next week. So, everyone wish her luck!

time to start doing work. ick. it's so beautiful. i want to play outside!!!!!

At WAG. Made a new pic from my Senior picture. Made it my default. It changes all the default pics in the past. kind of annoying like that. oh well.

Don't want to leave. the weather sucks out. must leave. have run all of my errands. walking to the stables wasn't that bad after all, but the weather got sucky on the way back. it was snowing nasty stuff that hurts. ran into Nayone in the Bookstore. Was the thrid time i had seen her, but the only one where i didn't plan to run into her. hey, i had a sucky morning. i am alowed to go out of my way to make myself feel better.

Must go now and start on homework. Have to go to the library and read something for class. Am NOT walking to Stop and Shop in the snow!
