athene: (Supermom)
[livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I aren't the neatest people in the world. We're not the messiest by far, but we definitely don't keep a spotless house. However, with a baby, two cats, and both of us back at work full time in a month, I realized that we're going to need some new habits. Otherwise we are going to end up with piles of laundry and stacks of dirty dishes. So I am going to try to develop two new ways of doing things.

1. Followthrough - To me this means completing the action. You bring a dirty dish into the kitchen, if the dishwasher is dirty it goes in there and not onto the counter. Go shopping, put everything away when you get home. Have something that goes in the trash or the recycling, put it directly into the trash or the recycling. Going downstairs, take something that is upstairs and belongs downstairs and bring it downstairs (see point 1 if it's a dirty dish).

2. Do a chore before doing something for yourself - The idea is this, if I have some baby-free time for myself, do a chore (or half of a chore) before taking the time to do what I want to do. Just 5 minutes of doing dishes or folding some laundry before playing on the computer or reading or whatever should really help us keep on top of things.

Hopefully by developing these habits, Aerith and I can keep the house in a state where we are both happy with it.
athene: (pregnant: still not king)
Yesterday started off with me waking up with pain in my right side. I'd slept with a regular body pillow, but it's just not working right for me. Good thing we have a pregnancy pillow on the way.

I was half way to work (maybe more than half way) and really proud of myself for being able to get in early when I realized I'd left my water bottle at home. Knowing I was going to teach class, I needed that water bottle. Turned around, went home, spent about 10 minutes frantically looking for my water bottle. Couldn't find it. Hoped it was at work. Got to work, not early anymore, and there was no water bottle. Luckily have some extra cups lying around just in case, but I really prefer my water bottle.

Taught class to four people. It was a good class. They picked up the stuff quickly, which was great. Except that we finished the morning section early, and then the extra bit I tried to show them didn't work right on the training site. Oh well. That happens.

There was a Mardi Gras party at lunch with yummy foods. I handed out beads for kisses on the cheek. Made me feel happy. :)

As I was leaving work for the day, I got a call from the midwife. I'd failed my one hour glucose test and have to come in for my three hour. My thoughts on that and some other things (including my latest pictures) are on the newest post on my pregnancy blog.

Got home from work so frustrated about that that I finally decided to clean the front door, something [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith asked me to do a long time ago but the weather was never nice enough or I never had the energy enough to do. I put on one of his old tee-shirts and an old pair of leggings and went out there...to discover that the wasps or a wasp is back. We had a nice conversation where I tried to kill him with my bleach-and-water soaked sponge and he decided it was better if he flew really high up above the door to his nest and stayed there for the whole time I cleaned the door. The door and its frame is now clean. It looks so much better!

Went out to Tuesday Night Pub Dinner for the first time in ages because it was Mardi Gras and I was going out damn it. I got to wear my badly printed King Cake maternity shirt from CafePress. Dinner was good and I'm glad I went. Came home and was so tired I fell asleep with my laptop on my legs. Got up, helped with the "going to bed" routine and actually went to bed.

Been having a good week. [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I both had this week off from work. We were supposed to get a lot of cleaning done. We did get some done, but not as much as I really wanted to. Oh well, that's how these things go.

For New Year's Eve we went to a friend's house who was having a James Bond themed party. It was fun. We dressed up all nice. It was good to see some people that we haven't seen in a while.

All dressed up )

On New Years day we mostly hung out and played WoW and stuff. Aerith made a Pork and Apple roast in the crock pot which was really yummy and made the house smell good all day.

Yesterday Camera came over for a while and we watched more Firefly (I am slowly turning him into a Browncoat. Mwahhaha!).

Other that it's been nice to just have quiet time at home. My dwarf is almost level 25, I've seen the whole first season of Entourage, and I'm reading Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom and re-reading Kushiel's Chosen at the same time.

Party tonight, last day of vacation tomorrow, back at work on Monday, and mom comes to visit in two weeks.

Taking a quick break from cleaning to post, since the Sears guy will be here soon.

Tuesday I finished running errands (credit union, gas station, dry cleaners), and then picked up [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith from work. Picked up finished boxes and then drove all the way south to yet another Hobby Lobby where we found the last 4 clasps. yay!

Somehow didn't get caught in too much traffic (I-35 Northbound at 5pm...i was shocked too) and hit up Toy Joy for gifts for family. OMG, why did nobody ever tell me how much fun/insane this place is? I could spend hours/lots of $$ here.

Hung out with FireCat, [livejournal.com profile] lawtalkyguy, and other friends that night. Went to Kerby Lane for food. FireCat is awesome and let me borrow her roll of Enhancer Fashion Tape so my nice (low-cut) dress stays in place on Saturday.

Yesterday was hanging out and starting to clean up the house. Was going to go see Enchanted (yes I want to see it. bite me) with [livejournal.com profile] crowgoddess, but that didn't work out. Went with [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith to production meeting of the play he's working on. Then we hit B&N (where he definitely didn't buy me any books for the holidays...) and Amy's for Ice Cream. Got to love a December where it's 70 in the day time and the night time is just warm enough to sit outside and eat ice cream. :)

Today has been more cleaning for me. Also ran to Post Office to mail presents to in-laws. When I got there I realized that I didn't have sis-in-law's address. One text message of her number to GOOGL later and I had her address. I do love Google, especially for stalking relatives *grin*.

Time for more cleaning. And then the Sears man will come and fix our washer so it will stop leaking water all over the floor (of course the warranty expired in August...). It's just the gasket, so it shouldn't take too long to fix (I hope). Then I can do all the laundry so we have clean clothes to pack for tonight. I actually have a list of everything to get done and everything i need to pack, but it's on paper, not on the internet. doesn't that make you happy?

PS. I got all As again this semester. I win at Information Science!

I finally went through the bookshelf that serves as my desk drawers and cleaned it all up. Threw away a ton of trash and filled all the papers and articles from the Spring semester (that's right, I hadn't gotten to it yet...). I feel all prepared for the coming semester. This is good because I'm going to New Orleans from Sunday to the following Saturday. When I come back I have Sunday, then I have to go to work, and then on Wed. the semester starts. Now I don't have to worry about getting all prepared then.

Hurray, while writing this post my new iPod case came in (I broke my old one). Just in time for my trip. Yay!

SNOW DAY

Jan. 15th, 2007 09:30 pm
athene: (hands of blue)
Well, due to "ice pellets", it appears that school is cancelled for tomorrow (and possibly wednesday too). All this for "ice accumulation less than a quarter of an inch." I think that it's pretty funny considering that nowhere where I worked or went to school in the past 8 years would have even blinked an eye at that sort of weather. We would have been told to "drive carefully and plan for extra time" but that's it.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I have done lots of the cleaning and setting up that we REALLY should have done when we moved in, but didn't have the time. We've gone through pretty much everything and only have a few things left in the "where the hell does this go" pile. Also, we've gotten more stuff up to decorate our walls. hell, maybe with my extra day off, we'll even get the study decorated (oh, how happy I will be).

Also, we found out that because our apartment place subsidizes some of the cable bill, it wasn't that much more a month to get a DVR/HDTV converter. Made watching the Saints game really great because I could go back and relook at things that I missed. Also, we have it set up to always tape Mythbusters.

I have painted my nails black and gold for my boys. I just hope they don't freeze too badly when they play the Bears.

I have FINALLY finished Jacqueline Carey's The Sundering duology. Very interesting. I expected to be in absolute tears by the end, but I wasn't. Just sad, and pensive. Of course, this came after much screaming and yelling at the characters and not being sure which ones I wanted to succeed.

Kind of sad, actually, that I don't have class tomorrow since it would have been my Digital Libraries class, which I'm very excited about. Well, maybe I'll start on the next book on my list: Doppelganger by Marie Brennan.
athene: (aubrey)
Arrrgh! Jaquiline Carrey is one evil evil author! I'm finally reading Godslayer and I want to root for both sides and it's totally not fair. Damn her for being so good at what she's doing!!!

In other news, in addition to watching lots of BSG, [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and i are really working on getting everything from the move completely unpacked and put away in its proper place. Hell, we might even finally get around to decorating the walls :)

The agenda for today includes (but is not limited to):
Cleaning out the bookshelf where my school stuff is housed and getting it ready for this semester
Cleaning off the bed that serves as my desk, including changing the sheets, to get it ready for this semester,
Finishing the cleaning up and putting away of everything that is currently lying around
Finding out how much digital/high def cable costs around here and if it's worth it
Kicking Aerith's ass about his grad school stuff
Going to the Cruxshadows concert tonight!

Tomorrow I have to go to work (fun fun) and then...the Saints are playing in their second time EVER to make it to the second round of the playoffs (their first time EVER with a bye). Sorry [livejournal.com profile] last_bastion, I gotta watch my boys.
athene: (wedding kiss)
So, in the world of insanities, [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith quit his job yesterday. The owner of the company was a real dickhead and finally pushed him too far. The lead craftsman there quit today, so that has to say something about the working conditions. Actually, i'm really proud of [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith because the owner wanted them to sign a contract giving up their 15 minute morning and afternoon breaks and aerith stood up to him because that isn't fair to the workers (and is possibly illegal).

Due to him having no employment, we decided to leave early to go to New Orleans. Therefore we will be leaving tomorrow (Thursday) and returning to Austin a week from Saturday. Hurray for a long vacation. Even found someone to watch the cats, so we don't have to worry about bringing them along.

Spent yesterday after [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith got home from quitting running errands. Found an ice rink inside of a mall...very weird. Spent most of today cleaning up the apartment so the cats don't wreak it while we're out of town. With the exception of the study (which they're not really allowed into anyway) the place looks amazing! Some of the clean up was stuff left over from when we moved in and never put everything away. Now hopefully we can just keep it like that.

Off to clean the cat's water fountain and then pack for the trip.

On my sister's laptop (much thanks to her and Natasha - the laptop). aerith and i have been working to find the nasty smell in my mom's kitchen. he cleaned the freazer and we cleaned the fridge (and i broke on of the glass shelves) but the smell was still there. Today I was cleaning up some of the pots that were lying around and two of them smelled really really badly...one almost made me retch. i think that i found the oder. hurray. i hope the smell is gone now. well, i really should get back to cleaning.

it's much warmer here than in NoHo. not hot hot, but at least it's not cold. Aerith was complaning about it *G*

Yesterday was sooo busy!!!

I cleaned my room a little bit. I know, it's amazing!

I also went to a meeting so I now have a van licence for Smith 7 person vans. Hurray. not that i've EVER driven a van in my life!

I was in the SSFFS library for my hours. It was much coldness b/c I couldn't get the heater to turn on. burrr. But i got to read some Sandman b/c it was too cold to do homework.

Saw Buffy:The Musical. OMG Spike is HOT! It was a very good episode, but i won't spoil it for anyone. I'm glad that 3G tapes Buffy so I can see it again and again and again.

Went to Sin:Thesis. Had a good time. The music was ok, but the people were good. I am going to help Kilean promote a show around Smith. Here goes: Sun, Nov 11, Cruxshadows, Bella Morte and Collapse into Reason are going to be playing at the Grotto in NoHo!!!!!!!! Doors open at 7:30pm. Cost is $12.

Also, for anyone who is at Smith, Kilean is going to be at a SSFFS meeting this friday selling tickets for Harry Potter for $5 each. And SSFFS is going to be playing Willow that night at 7:30 in Seelye 201 (most likely).

Need to shower now. Must wake up.
