I'm in New Orleans.

Came in on Wednesday (after plane was delayed do to hydraulic fluid). Had to go to Crabby Jacks and Hansen's.

Thursday [livejournal.com profile] queencimmy and were presenting a paper on Producer-Fan Interaction in Lost at the 2009 PCAACA National Conference. Our presentation went really well. Afterwards someone even came up to us and asked us if we had a copy of our paper, which was cool. I also went to panels on WoW and D&D, Ren Faires & Cons, and "Theatre: The Lighter Side." Some of the papers were good but a lot of them left me wondering where the author was going or what the point was. It's called writing an academic paper people.

Friday we ducked out of the conference early. Mom and I spent a nice evening together.

Today has been prep for seder day. Started the tzimmis nice and early in the crockpot. Now have the chicken soup on the stove with the matzo balls mix cooling in the freezer. House is starting to smell extra yummy.

Just finished reading all of Jorge Garcia's (aka Hurley from Lost) blog (which also has an LJ feed). It's really funny and amusing. No Lost spoilers, but that's okay.

As I was adding the feed to my LJ I heard the sounds of a cat about to throw up (which I know so well from the hair balls that Boris occasionally gets). This time it was not Boris but a very perturbed and somewhat frightened Natasha. I acted on instinct and grabbed her to get her onto the tile (so much easier to clean than the carpet). However, unlike Boris who calmly lets me move him, Natasha was not so happy. She flailed. A lot. I got her in the kitchen, but ended up with some nice gashes across my knuckles (we can't cut her nails...neither can the vet. the last time a vet tried she ripped the clipper out of the vet's hand even though she was being held down by the vet's assistant). Then after she threw up, she threw up just a little bit more on the couch arm. Thanks a lot kitty! Cleaned that up too and then cleaned out my scratches.

I'm actually a little worried about Natasha. She didn't eat much of her lunch (and now I know why), and I've never seen her throw up before or even have a hairball. I guess we'll just have to watch her over the next few days. Maybe she's allergic to [livejournal.com profile] queencimmy ;)

weekend

Had a good end of week / weekend.

On Thursday night, [livejournal.com profile] crabes and I went to the 90s One-Hit Wonders Sing-Along at the Alamo Drafthouse. We met up with [livejournal.com profile] noeticist, Bouncy, and Photoman there along with a friend from school. OMG! 2 hours of a full house screaming the words of your favorite One-Hit Wonder songs from the 90s, complete with head-banging, grooving, and waving of cell phones/lighters. So many songs that I totally forgot that I loved so much. Of course nobody still has any idea what they guy who sings "Informer" is actually saying :).

On Friday night, [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith made stir-fry and we watched the first episode of Lost's 4th season. This is more like it. A big mystery, lots of questions, no idea what's going on. This is the Lost I know and love.

On Saturday I got some homework done and then in the evening [livejournal.com profile] iskanderia came over. We subjected her to Grosse Pointe Blank and in retaliation, she subjected us to Caligula. All 2+ hours of naked bottoms and crazy emperors. In the middle of this movie watching madness, we walked over to Amy's Ice Cream. This time not only did we know the quote, but I'd happened to have had the movie (the Incredibles) on my iPhone. Instead of saying the name of the movie out loud, I just showed the person serving us the ice cream a screen shot and said, "It's from this." :)

On Sunday I did more reading for class (big surprise...) and [livejournal.com profile] noeticist came over for Beef Stroganoff, which [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith made and Guitar Hero. He also showed us what Eve looks like. Very pretty. Since there's a Mac version, I'm thinking about possibly picking it up. Not sure if I'll really have time to play though. Also caught the last quarter of the Super Bowl (go Giants/Manning) and a bit of the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet (too cute!).

It's so nice here today that I'm wearing a knee length skirt.

I tried out the Heroes 360 experience while watching the new episode of Heroes. While the trivia and the little immediate surveys (which not only gave other viewers results but also kept track of what I answered) were cute, in some ways they were distracting from the show. I know I missed the translation of what Hiro said a couple of times b/c I was checking on the computer screen. And I can't get the code that Hana gave out to work on the Primatech Paper site...but looking at the message boards, it looks like everyone else is confused too. So either NBC fucked up or we all missed something. My instinct is the former, but I'll check Wikipedia tomorrow to see if I'm right.

All of this - Heroes 360, The Lost Experience, America votes for its favorites, etc - has gotten me thinking about the nature of television and the interaction that cell phones and the internet has given us and its cultural and informational impact on society and entertainment. Hmm...good thing that I'm in school for this sort of thing ;) (And we wonder why I keep thinking about that PhD...)

Well, off to read a bazillion pages before class tomorrow. Damn my weekend of lethargy!

PS. Why is there not pie???

Brain dead

So brain dead. Had a mid-term for Organizing and Providing Access to Info class, which is one of the most disorganized classes I've ever had. Was not so much fun, but I got through it. Bleh. Brain dead now.

Last night was also not so much in the fun department. After getting home early from study group, I decided to make dinner. Dinner invovled chicken cooking in crushed tomatoes...which is very soupy and will boil. Flipped chicken, chicken came crashing down, made a splashed and burned me on the arm. Ran it under water, but it still blistered just a little bit. Put ice wrapped in paper towels on it.

Just after this happens I get a call from [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith saying that he stopped to get the mail and now the car won't start. Run out (with ice on arm), to deal with him. Help him figure out that it's electrical (the automatic locking wasn't working). Make him call AAA. Run back home because stove is on.

Aerith get car jumped by AAA and brings it to Toyota people. He just misses the bus that comes by there. I call a cab for him. Cab doesn't show. He catches the next bus (an hour later). My cell phone almost dies so lots of calling is done while it's on the charger. Not fun. Also, am trying to study for test. Call [livejournal.com profile] cjovalle and qyandri and tell them not to come over due to everything.

Aerith gets home around 8:30. We watch the second half of Lost while eating (dinner, at least, came out well). Then I watch Project Runway. OMG, Laura, WTF!

Got to bed. Get up, Aerith has co-worker pick him up, so this is good. Walk to bus stop. Bus is v. late and Mopac is v. busy. Get to class JUST in time. Stop and go traffic combined with anti-bacterial medicine (did I mention I have a bacterial infection...it's treatable, but not fun), makes me nausious. So, right before test I am stressed about test and getting to class on time, nausious, burnt, and worried about car/cost of car.

Test=not fun.

Now, work.

Later reception for grad students. There will be food and drinks, but no drinking for me due to medicine. Then there will be Whole Foods and making breakfast for tomorrow and finishing paper due tomororow. Edit: Ha, finished paper and e-mailed it to prof!

Even later there will be reading and 8-10 page paper for Tuesday and project for Thursday. And possibly (but not likely) Vamp Larp.

Saturday there will be Ren Faire. So says I.

Friday [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I finished watching Lost season 2. Damn those fucking writers, we hates them my precious!!!!

Saturday [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and [livejournal.com profile] artemis42 and I went to breakfast at Sylvester's then we headed over to Amherst and hung out with [livejournal.com profile] kjpepper and [livejournal.com profile] sundart for a little bit. Headed back to pick up [livejournal.com profile] daobear.

In the evening we met up with [livejournal.com profile] dawnfeather and her father and saw Cars. Dear lord and lady that was a funny movie. I think the parents were laughing harder than the kids! I know I missed some good lines because I was laughing over them.

Then the 4 of us went out to Packard's for food. I had a DEEP FRIED CHEESEBURGER! It was soooo good!!!!

This morning Aerith and I picked up dawnfeather and then met up with daobear and artemis up in Vermont. We hiked up Wantastiquet Mountain. We took it slow and easy and even though I was the slowest person, no one made me feel bad about it, which I liked. We got a decent way up, but we didn't get to the top. I wanted to, but I knew better than to over exert myself. We came back down and stopped to eat at a really nice outcropping of rock that had a really nice view of Brattleboro, VT. Took lots of pictures and hopefully I'll be able to get them uploaded soon.

aerith and i got primo's for dinner and finished watching all the episodes of Avatar that have been aired on tv. My feet hurt. and my back a bit. and my legs. But i had a good time.
athene: (Breakfast LJ)
My brain all explody. Just watched the episode "Numbers" of Lost. makes the brain hurt.

Then there is the Cat Filked Ren Songs that [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith is playing. Makes the head hurt more.

Going to drum and dance. my last one. sadness.
athene: (cute beholder)
Slept like ASS last night. Had to get up this morning to get my car inspected. Ran into [livejournal.com profile] deravyn and his ~l.

In the past 30 hours or so [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I have watched 8 episodes of Lost. Yup, we're addicted.

My whole house smells like chocolate cake. mmm...cake. made by me from scratch.
athene: (wedding-smile)

  1. [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and i each independently coming up with the same concept for dinner.

  2. sunshine

  3. [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and i finally going through and re-organizing the closets downstairs, getting rid of some stuff, finding some stuff, and putting things in more obvious places.

  4. [livejournal.com profile] artemis42

  5. [livejournal.com profile] artemis42 being able to get all of her stuff into aforementioned closets. I have a kitchen and a downstairs bathroom again.

  6. [livejournal.com profile] artemis42's artwork hanging in the bathroom downstairs. Now that we have a little over 3 months left, we finally start really decorating :)
