[livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I aren't the neatest people in the world. We're not the messiest by far, but we definitely don't keep a spotless house. However, with a baby, two cats, and both of us back at work full time in a month, I realized that we're going to need some new habits. Otherwise we are going to end up with piles of laundry and stacks of dirty dishes. So I am going to try to develop two new ways of doing things.

1. Followthrough - To me this means completing the action. You bring a dirty dish into the kitchen, if the dishwasher is dirty it goes in there and not onto the counter. Go shopping, put everything away when you get home. Have something that goes in the trash or the recycling, put it directly into the trash or the recycling. Going downstairs, take something that is upstairs and belongs downstairs and bring it downstairs (see point 1 if it's a dirty dish).

2. Do a chore before doing something for yourself - The idea is this, if I have some baby-free time for myself, do a chore (or half of a chore) before taking the time to do what I want to do. Just 5 minutes of doing dishes or folding some laundry before playing on the computer or reading or whatever should really help us keep on top of things.

Hopefully by developing these habits, Aerith and I can keep the house in a state where we are both happy with it.

I've been enjoying my last week of "freedom" before I rejoin the working world.

I've spent most of the week so far cleaning up the apartment (gods, did it need it). The study is in a MUCH better shape than it has been in a long time. There's still a lot to go on it (can we say total reorganization of the closet), but the paperwork is off of my desk-bed/the floor and has been put away, put into meaningful piles, or been trashed/recycled. Last night [livejournal.com profile] syhira brought over the futon base that she no longer needs so we put my desk-bed up on top of it. It's going to take some time for me to adjust to my desk-bed being up so high. I've also tackled the mess that was the kitchen and just finished doing a dark hand-wash load in the washer (I love that my washer has that setting).

I hope to finish cleaning this place up this week, which includes lots of vacuuming and possibly reorganizing my clothing (especially the clothing in the closet...I may need to buy more hangers).

I've also spent some time reading Children of Dune, watching Season 2 of Weeds (wow it's a good show!) and watching some Firefly. Had a nice long conversation today with [livejournal.com profile] artemis42, which I think we both needed.

Last night I went to karaoke and stayed out very late doing so. It was a lot of fun (as always) and I really had a good time/felt that I rocked it. I sang a bunch (yay for a short rotation). I think that my favorites of the night were "Call Me", "Walk this Way" (the pure Aerosmith version), and "The Time of My Life" duet with [livejournal.com profile] zyrain.

Next week: work. In three weeks = week long trip to Massachusetts. October = filling up fast with the Browncoat Ball, TRF, and Halloween parties.

Oh and [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I are planning to go to RHPS this weekend. Let us know if you are coming too.

Taking a quick break from cleaning to post, since the Sears guy will be here soon.

Tuesday I finished running errands (credit union, gas station, dry cleaners), and then picked up [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith from work. Picked up finished boxes and then drove all the way south to yet another Hobby Lobby where we found the last 4 clasps. yay!

Somehow didn't get caught in too much traffic (I-35 Northbound at 5pm...i was shocked too) and hit up Toy Joy for gifts for family. OMG, why did nobody ever tell me how much fun/insane this place is? I could spend hours/lots of $$ here.

Hung out with FireCat, [livejournal.com profile] lawtalkyguy, and other friends that night. Went to Kerby Lane for food. FireCat is awesome and let me borrow her roll of Enhancer Fashion Tape so my nice (low-cut) dress stays in place on Saturday.

Yesterday was hanging out and starting to clean up the house. Was going to go see Enchanted (yes I want to see it. bite me) with [livejournal.com profile] crowgoddess, but that didn't work out. Went with [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith to production meeting of the play he's working on. Then we hit B&N (where he definitely didn't buy me any books for the holidays...) and Amy's for Ice Cream. Got to love a December where it's 70 in the day time and the night time is just warm enough to sit outside and eat ice cream. :)

Today has been more cleaning for me. Also ran to Post Office to mail presents to in-laws. When I got there I realized that I didn't have sis-in-law's address. One text message of her number to GOOGL later and I had her address. I do love Google, especially for stalking relatives *grin*.

Time for more cleaning. And then the Sears man will come and fix our washer so it will stop leaking water all over the floor (of course the warranty expired in August...). It's just the gasket, so it shouldn't take too long to fix (I hope). Then I can do all the laundry so we have clean clothes to pack for tonight. I actually have a list of everything to get done and everything i need to pack, but it's on paper, not on the internet. doesn't that make you happy?

PS. I got all As again this semester. I win at Information Science!
