Of baking and other things

On Friday [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I went to a party where we got to meet some cool new people and I got to reconnect with an old friend. I made chocolate cupcakes for the party which went over really well. Except something seemed a little wrong with them but I couldn't place it then.

On Tuesday I made a double batch of the same cupcakes for the new student orientation at the iSchool and I realized what it was. On Friday I only put in half the amount of buttermilk that the recipe called for. Oops. If the ones from Friday were good, the ones from Tuesday were even better, even if I did have to run out twice while making them (once to Michael's, while the first batch was baking, to pick up more cupcake holders and once to HEB for more powdered sugar). I decorated them with the iSchool logo and the IT Lab logo because I'm a nerd.

When I was walking to the bus with the cupcakes yesterday someone asked me if they were for Halloween or UT. I smiled and said "UT". Is this the first of becoming a Texan?

Orientation went really well yesterday. I answered lots of new student questions and gave advice. The cupcakes were well received and by 3pm there weren't any left.

After orientation I went to the iSchool Happy Hour at the Dog and Duck which was fun. Came home and ended up taking a 2.5 hour nap. Guess I needed it.

In other news, the job search is going well. I don't want to say anything more than that, lest I jinx it. I still have to finish up some stuff in the Lab so I'll be there today, after the vet comes over for the cats' yearly checkup, and possibly tomorrow.

SNOW DAY

Well, due to "ice pellets", it appears that school is cancelled for tomorrow (and possibly wednesday too). All this for "ice accumulation less than a quarter of an inch." I think that it's pretty funny considering that nowhere where I worked or went to school in the past 8 years would have even blinked an eye at that sort of weather. We would have been told to "drive carefully and plan for extra time" but that's it.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I have done lots of the cleaning and setting up that we REALLY should have done when we moved in, but didn't have the time. We've gone through pretty much everything and only have a few things left in the "where the hell does this go" pile. Also, we've gotten more stuff up to decorate our walls. hell, maybe with my extra day off, we'll even get the study decorated (oh, how happy I will be).

Also, we found out that because our apartment place subsidizes some of the cable bill, it wasn't that much more a month to get a DVR/HDTV converter. Made watching the Saints game really great because I could go back and relook at things that I missed. Also, we have it set up to always tape Mythbusters.

I have painted my nails black and gold for my boys. I just hope they don't freeze too badly when they play the Bears.

I have FINALLY finished Jacqueline Carey's The Sundering duology. Very interesting. I expected to be in absolute tears by the end, but I wasn't. Just sad, and pensive. Of course, this came after much screaming and yelling at the characters and not being sure which ones I wanted to succeed.

Kind of sad, actually, that I don't have class tomorrow since it would have been my Digital Libraries class, which I'm very excited about. Well, maybe I'll start on the next book on my list: Doppelganger by Marie Brennan.

randomness

Have seen two plays: the Glass Menagerie and Much Ado About Nothing. Both were lots of fun. I miss theatre so much!

Went to visit [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith's family over the weekend. His niece is so cute. This was the last time we'll see them before we move.

Have about 4 hours of personal time I have to figure out how to take before end of work. Am already taking a bunch of time off my last week (my last 2 days are half days).

Got about 6 boxes of books packed. Hurray!

Both or one of the cats are/is peeing on the carpet. Thisclose to killing them!! Renting carpet cleaner this weekend.

Less than three weeks until the move...aghh!

Got an e-mail, iSchool wants me to interview for a IT Lab TA position. YAY. Wanted me to interview this week or next...I hope they do phone interviews!

There's something funny about watching Project Runway and spinning yarn at the same time. Kind of pulls it all together.

angsty period post

so, of course I HAD to get my period during finals. Now I am tired and grumpy and pissy and i can't focus on my latin at all!!!! This really sucks. I wanted to be ALL studied and take the test at 9am and then the cs test at 2 so that i could see Buffy and then go to Haven. Now it looks like i'm going to have to take the Latin test at 2, go to the library and the computer labs afterwards, and the cs test at 7. I pray that the cs test will be easy (it should be) and that i'll be back home in time to see most, if not all, of Buffy. Then I will go to haven. Then I will wake up on wed and study for my American theatre test and take that either at 2 or at 7. then i will spend thurs writing my paper for Opera and then i will be DONE.

I just wish i didn't have to bother with my stupid period. i wish that it wasn't here because then i wouldn't be so tired and unfocused. I just hope that i can focus better tomorrow with the clock ticking down.

must sleep now. night night me.

So... over the weekend I went and got my pictures. CVS messed up some of them, but the ones of me w/the amazing drawing power of catling and Nayone came out really well! (for first entry about this, go here). I scaned the pics at WAG today. Here they are:
They are kind of big and might take a while to load, so click here to see them )

lots to say

hmm...so much to say.

Tuesday: Had a really really great time at Haven! Had a whole bunch of good conversations with people which is always a good thing. Got to dance near [livejournal.com profile] kiten and [livejournal.com profile] autumnlaughing both of whom are amazing dancers and make me feel like an akward amature on the dance floor. But Kiten said I was inspiring *blush* The only sucky things were 1) I missed Nayone, a lot! and 2) Aerith got tired and so we left before the last song *pout* oh well.

Yesterday it snowed and snowed and snowed, but Aerith and I had to go out anyway. We went over to UMass and then to Barnes&Noble where I spent too much money on a book for his mother, an issue of Games Magazine, another puzzle book, a Forbidden Broadway CD, and the I am Sam Soundtrack. Got a free cd opener and all was 10% off. yay coupons.
Then went to Space-Crime. Yay Space-Crime. Being at B&N made me feel like such a traider, but I didn't buy any Sci-fi/fantasy/mystery stuff there, so it was ok.

Then picked up Swan and Kiten and got some groceries.

I ran my game last night. My first time DMing. EEP! It went really well, i think. mostly. 3G was giving me a really hard time. Not very nice of him! It's a very interesting party. But I did as best as i could. Right before the "major fight" my head got really strange and I just couldn't focus anymore. So we called it a night. 3G drove Swan and Kiten home and Aerith and I watched some of Disney's Robin Hood. I love that movie! But then Aerith got really tired so we went to bed *wink*

Today we were going to get up early, but that didn't happen.

So, now i am at the Music and Theatre Library at Smith. I was going to listen to both La Traviatta and Aida today, but the CD of La Traviatta was missing the libretto, so they had to find me another libretto so i could follow along with the opera. By the time i finished listening to it (almost crying, but i didn't), i got out Aida and read the plot, but the opera is 2.5 hours long and the library closes at 5pm, and i didn't want to start listening to it to have to stop in the middle. So, i did some reading about Verdi and then i caught up on my LJ reading.

oh yes, happy spring, even if the weather around here doesn't think so!

Spring Break

So, it's Spring Break.

Guess what it did today? SNOW! Argh!

Gamed on Saturday. Was good. Am now a 6th level Cleric. Finally got over the 35xp i needed. yay!

Met Nayone's dad yesterday. That was strange, but i think it went well. I was a little worried when he showed up and 3Gs parents were around, but it all went ok. yay yay. Swan hurt his ankle and so Aerith drove him to the hospital and the Brewery gave us our lunch for free b/c of this. that was cool, but not cool that Swan hurt himself. Watched Sybil on tv. was really good. I have to read the book one of these days.

today has been kind of bleh. I've worked a bit on my paper which is good. I have a lot to say, but sometimes i just can't seem to express it right. blerg. Watched the boys play more of "Grand Theft Auto 3" Amusing, but kind of stupid. makes me bored.

bored bored bored bored bored. i wish there was something more interesting to do besides watch tv/movie/video games, try to work on paper/play on line, and eat lots of chocolate. i could read, but i don't really want to right now. bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored. blerg blerg.

my classes and the world

ahhhhhh. my classes are following me EVERYWHERE!!!!!!

First I take a break from Latin to read some Chris Durang. So, in Nature and Purpose of the Universe the monks come on conjugating amo and the Pope's speach starts with the declention of agricola and the conjugation of sum. And there are quotes in it from Death of a Salesman and Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf.

Then I was taking a break from Latin again, playing Eight Off (a Solitare game) with RENT! on in the background and I start thinking about how the finale of Act One has the conventions of the 19th Century Italian Opera (well...it IS based on La Boheme, but still!).

My classes are taking over my life. It's soooo scary. Well...back to Aeneas and Dido.

First Two Days of Classes

Well, I've now had all of the academic classes that I am going to have for the first half of the semester.

The Aeneid - Looks like work, but fun cause Latin is cool. Prof Ryan seems like she will be a hard ass, but that's good b/c Latin is picky. I'm glad that I just remember my latin right now and don't think it's Greek.

American Drama and Theatre - I forgot how much I just LOVE Kiki! She's so cute. Much bigger class than the last one I took with her. Should be good. Reading some new stuff and some stuff that I've had to read over and over and over again. At least I'll know those.

History of Opera - Seems like it's going to be fun. I'm a little worried that I don't know ALL the technical terms of music, but that's ok. Will be a decent amount of work, lots of listening to Opera, but I have to keep reminding myself that I'm taking it pass/fail.

As for riding, I'm not sure when the meeting is yet. And my web design class doesn't start until the second half of the semester. Catling is in the first and second half. She says that the prof is cool. I'm glad.

So far this semester looks really cool. I'm excited about it. Even though the fact that it's my last one really scares me.

i've finally caught up with all of my friends lj posts. hurray.

back in NoHo. :) Saturday had a ton of fun gaming with old friends. yay yay and more yay. didn't get to do much in the game itself, but had fun just being there. hope to play again sometime.

Nayone came up on monday and we helped her move into the batcave. she stayed over on monday night and we watched Grosse Point Blank and Chasing Amy. Had a LONG conversation about the second movie. was a good one though.

back at work. which is good. very very quiet. :) changed Amythyst's bannerweb pin b/c she asked me to over AIM. hehehe. i love technology. had teach someone how to copy and paste without going to the edit menu. *laugh* love my job :)

went shopping yesterday. Got myself a really cool shirt from Express and called it dad's x-mas present to me. also got a new pair of jeans that have a cut off look at the bottom and at the top and therefore have no button. good for those bathroom dashes *G*. Also went to Hot Topic where we ran into The Lady b/c she works there. Going dancing with her on fri. hurray! Got myself a shirt of Liddia from Beatlejuice reading the Handbook for the Recently Deceased.

Game was cool last night. Killed three Drow all by myself. hehehe. Just glad to see Kiten and Swan again. Hopefully we will be able to hang out with them more soon.

weekend

friday- Saw Jay and Silent Bob again. Somehow it just wasn't as funny the second time. And the middle really really dragged.

Sat- had class. grrr. but i am doing well. Understanding a lot more now that I have a strong latin basis.
Went to the Mall to meet up with Aerith. he got his hair cut. ok, it needed it, but couldn't he have left it just a LITTLE bit longer?? Ended up on a sugar low. had to go to burger king. why does aerith get mad whenever this happens? I don't mean it to. he needs to realize that i really can't fuction when it happens and i need to be taken care of and told "we are going here and you are eating now." I'm glad it doesn't happen often.

Aerith ran his D&D game that night. So much fun!! he really screwed us over, but we got a hell of a lot done. I would like Allegra to join our game, but Aerith isn't sure. I think the more he gets to know her, the more he will like her.

Sunday - did some homework and some cleaning. Bought a futon!! hurray!!!! got sheets for said futon. arranged it in my room. hurray for big cumfy beds!!!
went to the ASP meeting. There are a lot of good first-years. I'm exicited about this year! It should be really good. we planned Mabon and I got a Treasurer in Training, who also happens to game!!!

Then the house meeting. ugh, could it get any more boring? I want to take all of the house officials aside and give them voice projecting lessons. Everyone was quiet when i introduced myself. why? b/c I projected my voice and spoke clearly and concisely. thank you years of theatre training. the meeting took almost 3 hours.

Had a talk with HR about Miss Priss. I feel better about getting that off of my chest. Then we talked about the posiblity of having senior coctails once a month or something. That could be soo much fun!!!

Cleaned up and organized my room. I feel ready to start the semester for real now.
Watched the end of the "House of Yes." had seen part of it before. such a weird movie!!!

realized that I really should have washed my sheets first. oh well.

time to get ready for classes.

a live update

I haven't written in forever, so I'll try to write down all the important stuff.

Was in NYC from Tues 8/28 to Thurs 8/30 with Cim and Dad.
On that wed, Cim and I took the subway (by ourselves - this was a big deal for Cim b/c she had never ridden the NY subways with out at least one of our parental units before) to the Village. I showed her where our cousins' lived. She was impressed. Then we walked up and down 8th St. (which turns into St. Mark's Place). They have THE COOLEST stores on that street!!! We walked into awesome clothing, music, drug stores, you name it! I think that this made Cim even more exicited about going to SLC. And I got my senior hat at this place called Trash&Vaudville. (that's not me in it, duh) Mine flops around more than that one does. I also picked up a new surround. Cim found a really cool vinnal skirt for $20! I LOVE THE VILLAGE!!!

We took the subway back to the hotel and then dad got back with tickets to the ROCKY HORROR SHOW. I had the best time there. The really cute member of the swing sat on my foot (long story). Dick Cavett was the narrator and Daphne (from RENT) was Magenta. Cim made Janet crack up laughing when she called out "it was easy, but it would have been easier without the pantyhoes." Just so people know, you can dress up and yell stuff out. Sometimes the actors will react to what you yell. It's a really wonderful experiance. Anyone who can make it to NYC and see RHS should.

Thurs I took the train to Springfield. It was actually a very nice ride. I think that that is now going to be my perfered way of getting to the City (like during fall break and stuff).

Friday we ran Broadside's X-men game into the ground. oops.

I was also having issues with returning to school and stuff. could have been enhanced by PMS.

sat/sun was Game Bob. Had a good time, even though the PCs made lots of mistakes and some people were upset that we couldn't seem to kill anything.

mon - packed, moved back into my room (somewhat)

tues - ITS training. mostly boring. wrote good stories with Amythyst, Lil' J., and L.
Then Haven. I'll miss the place, but i'll see the people next week

wed- amherst class. It took me a while to find the building and the room. The class is really big for a greek class. I so don't remember any of my greek!!! But hopefully some of it will come back. The prof seems really nice. then back to smith for more its training. still boring, but learned some useful pointers.

I've started charging people a quarter to help them with their computer problems :)

At the All-Campus BBQ SSFFS sat together. as usual. we talked about the fact that the dudette won't be around. so BM is taking over the pres. but now there is no VP. said i would do it. no one else minded. We're going to talk more at the officer's meeting. R2 said that she would be the other college liason. saw R3. told her that there might be an opening for jobs at the USC.

For Convocation my house was dressing like Super Heros. All superheros need their villains, so i dressed at Catwoman. very black slinky clothing with a tail, a mask, and cat ears in my hat. Convocation was a blast! we screamed and yelled (we even got to yell "Ruth" once) and carried on. it was the best. screaming 0h-Two at the top of my lungs gave me such a good feeling. I'm very glad to be back at Smith. Everyone who spoke gave really good speaches, espically Connoly(sp!). I'll miss this next year.

After, Allegra and her friend showed up at my dorm and i taught them munchkin. Lil' J. showed up part way through it. We didn't finish the game b/c we all had classes, and Aerith wanted to talk to me.

Today I went to two classes
Child and Adolecent Growth and Development seems interesting. I'm not sure what taking it with Aerith will be like. Either really good or really bad. The teacher seems ok. A little dry though. but no major papers, only quizes and tests.
Comedy and Romance seems really cool. I love Greek plays!! The prof seems good, but he is so quiet that it's hard to hear him, and the accent makes it worse. I think it will be a really good class.

There are some cool looking people in my doom. There is one really quiet goth on my floor. I'll have to get her to open up. I'm trying.

Things that are lost: my cloak, my old dresser - i don't like this one. i want my old one back.

my room is mostly together. some clothing on the floor. have to figure out what to do with the milkcrates. I am missing my Athena plack. but my alter is set up, all of the "big" things are on the wall, so now i just have to put up the post cards. and organize my desk. Then I will really be ready to be here. i love the way my room is set up, i will have to thank Aerith again!!!

i think that's all i have to say. I have to do a lot of greek studying. Maybe i'll e-mail the prof and see about going to Amherst an hour early to work with her. I love greek plays soo much. I really want to understand greek and be able to know all the forms and silly thiings like that.

one last thing: I GET TO LEARN HORSEBACK RIDING!!! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
