Meet Eva

Yesterday my brandy new lappytop came in. Her name is Eva and she's a 15" MacBook Pro with a 500GB harddrive and the super awesomely fast processor chip. Considering that Elektra had only 100GB of space and a pre-Intel processor...yeah, it was time for an upgrade.

Yesterday when I got Eva, I went to set her up, but I missed the right time to transfer all of my info easily and then I tried to transfer it and it just didn't work right, so I wiped Eva, reinstalled from the disks and then set up the transfer. Cause that happened so late last night, I really didn't get a chance to play with her then. However, almost everything transferred over perfectly and the few things that didn't were really easy to fix (except for my anti-virus, which I got when I was a student and so I think it's finally time to suck it up and buy a copy).

So far Eva is awesome. The only problem is that she has one of those new-fangled firewire ports, and Steve (my external harddrive) has the old style ones, but I can also use Steve via USB, so it's not a huge deal.

Ok, off to try out WoW on my new baby.

hot time

This morning when I went to go pack up my laptop I found that she was hot to the touch, which was odd since I definitely turned her off last night before going to bed.And there was a lovely slightly burnt smell. I immediately turned the laptop fan below her on. Then I tried to turn her on and she turned on okay. She kept going to sleep, but I was able to wake her up enough to get to the desktop. Both fans inside the computer were whirring away. I checked iStat Pro and all of the temps were above 100° F. Some, like the CPU temps were above 150°. I turned off Elektra and unplugged everything from her, leaving the laptop fans going (they have their own power source). I probably should have pulled out the battery too, but by now I was running late for work.

The only thing that was different about how I left her last night was that I left the USB cable from the laptop cooler plugged into her. I recently got an external harddrive and Elektra doesn't have enough battery power to run it through the USB, so I've been using the USB hub that's on the back of the laptop cooler. But nothing was plugged into the laptop cooler. Elektra's power cord is on a surge protector...but the laptop cooler's isn't. hmmm...

She seemed to be cooling down as I left, so I hope everything this okay. *quietly freaking out a little bit*

It looks like a lot of people are having a tough week. *HUGS* to everyone.

In just over the last 24 hours I have
  • Arrived at the airport in Austin
  • Got randomly selected for special screening, which made me feel violated and also made me wish I had this shirt from Northern Sun.
  • Found out the plane was really tiny, but had leather seats and XM radio.
  • Flew to New Orleans in under 2 hours.
  • Dropped my backpack twice, which resulted in a dent in the casing of my laptop and a broken latch hook so now it won't stay closed (no...I didn't get Apple Care, why ever would you ask such a thing?).

  • Went food shopping with mom and sis.
  • Was introduced to the awesome countertops of awesomeness
  • Discovered that my room is being used for storage and is therefore more messy than when I left it.
  • Went to lunch with [livejournal.com profile] queencimmy, [livejournal.com profile] songbirdelsha and her sis.
  • Went shopping with [livejournal.com profile] queencimmy.
  • Was relieved to realize that even with the bent case my laptop is working just fine.
  • Went to Haenson's Sno-Bliz with mom.
  • Fought with my sister, twice.
  • Watched silly tv with my family.
  • Stayed up too late hanging out with my sister.
  • Slept in "my bed".
  • Woke up happy to be at my mother's house.

so, i installed the new mac version of icq. much goodness and happyness.

then i installed the new aim and for some bazzar reason threw out the old folder. the new version had SOOOO many issues!! it was just fucking up and freazing and doing all sorts of weird things. luckly Aerith was nice enough to have me put up each of the buddy icons i had just downloaded and then send them to me over icq so i could save them. he's the BEST boyfriend!!! then i totally got rid of aim and re-installed the older better working version. hurray. now i can chat with Nayone and Aerith. hurray :)

my e-mail checker is also being weird. it tells me i have new messages, but won't tell me the folder. oh well.

just realized that i never finished that e-mail to the crazy russian (my best friend since 8th grade). oops. should do that now.
