Meet Eva

Yesterday my brandy new lappytop came in. Her name is Eva and she's a 15" MacBook Pro with a 500GB harddrive and the super awesomely fast processor chip. Considering that Elektra had only 100GB of space and a pre-Intel processor...yeah, it was time for an upgrade.

Yesterday when I got Eva, I went to set her up, but I missed the right time to transfer all of my info easily and then I tried to transfer it and it just didn't work right, so I wiped Eva, reinstalled from the disks and then set up the transfer. Cause that happened so late last night, I really didn't get a chance to play with her then. However, almost everything transferred over perfectly and the few things that didn't were really easy to fix (except for my anti-virus, which I got when I was a student and so I think it's finally time to suck it up and buy a copy).

So far Eva is awesome. The only problem is that she has one of those new-fangled firewire ports, and Steve (my external harddrive) has the old style ones, but I can also use Steve via USB, so it's not a huge deal.

Ok, off to try out WoW on my new baby.

hot time

This morning when I went to go pack up my laptop I found that she was hot to the touch, which was odd since I definitely turned her off last night before going to bed.And there was a lovely slightly burnt smell. I immediately turned the laptop fan below her on. Then I tried to turn her on and she turned on okay. She kept going to sleep, but I was able to wake her up enough to get to the desktop. Both fans inside the computer were whirring away. I checked iStat Pro and all of the temps were above 100° F. Some, like the CPU temps were above 150°. I turned off Elektra and unplugged everything from her, leaving the laptop fans going (they have their own power source). I probably should have pulled out the battery too, but by now I was running late for work.

The only thing that was different about how I left her last night was that I left the USB cable from the laptop cooler plugged into her. I recently got an external harddrive and Elektra doesn't have enough battery power to run it through the USB, so I've been using the USB hub that's on the back of the laptop cooler. But nothing was plugged into the laptop cooler. Elektra's power cord is on a surge protector...but the laptop cooler's isn't. hmmm...

She seemed to be cooling down as I left, so I hope everything this okay. *quietly freaking out a little bit*

It looks like a lot of people are having a tough week. *HUGS* to everyone.

OMG! Tiger is awesome. there's this thing called dashboard which has all these "widgets" that you can add. I just added LiveWidget, so I can make LJ posts from my dashboard. I think i'll probably use xJournal more, but this is still pretty nifty.

Also nifty is the yule present that aerith got me. hurray for being downstairs and being able to print to the upstairs network printer. :)

First post from Elektra, the new laptop that i was able to get with a no-interest computer loan. Sometimes there are advantages to working for a bank.

Elektra is a Powerbook. There actually is a hole in the wall for [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith's webcam *grin*. So we ran a cord through it and i'm in the bedroom.

I was going to go to bed early, but then I figured out how to transfer all of my program settings for things like Firefox and Thunderbird and that made me happy. I've also been importing some of my music, but i'm going to take it slow b/c Howard II has lots of things on him that i really don't listen to, so I figure that i don't want them on Elektra.

Anyway, i believe it is finally time for bed.
