Friday night [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith went to go see How to Train Your Dragon. It was a fairly typical kids movie plot, but ZOMG SO CUTE! Want dragon!!! We went to the Lake Creek Drafthouse where that night they were also playing all three Evil Dead movies and so some of the waitstaff were dressed up like zombies. It was truly awesome.

Saturday we headed over to [livejournal.com profile] pyroyo007's for his annual crawfish boil (after feeding [livejournal.com profile] byskwik's cats). We were only going to stay for a little while, but I ended up staying for a long time (Aerith had another thing, so he left and then came back). Mmmm...crawfish.

That night we were going to do one of the 4 or 5 different things that we knew of, but we were so dead from the day that we came home, had ice cream and crashed (after feeding [livejournal.com profile] byskwik's cats).

Sunday I got up and went to a brunch meeting (after feeding [livejournal.com profile] byskwik's cats). After the meeting I drove home, picked up [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and our Ren garb and headed out to Sherwood Forest Faire. Took us about an hour to get there (we got a little confused a few times...especially because the right turn after turning off of 290 isn't well marked) and another 20 or so to get dressed due to laces and winds and dust.

The faire itself was really nice. I think it was a great size with lots of artists, vendors, musicians, etc. OMG, the Italian food place! Got to see the Austin Browncoats, my friends at Abzu Emporium, and listen to the lovely Tulstin Troubadours. I got my hair braided really pretty with flowers and glitter and everything. [livejournal.com profile] knighthorse took pictures and hopefully a few came out well.

The only thing that really disappointed me about the faire was the lack of interaction between the Faire's actors and the faire goers. I almost literally ran into Robin Hood at one point, but nothing...not that I have a character or anything, but aren't they supposed to?

Came home and pretty much fell over.

*breathes some fire in your general direction*

Though admittedly, the training tends to go the other way.

I want a dragon too. OMG more than I can say. Atm, though, it's bad enough having an adorable boyfriend attempting to blame me for his repeated comments about wanting to see it. ... Cause I'm the one who informed me we have plans this weekend because we need to see this movie.

Also, spoiled cats. My roommate had me cat sit for a few days, and yes, this involved feeding them twice a day. But if I'd stayed til she came back, I would have spent my entire spring break sitting on the couch in my apartment, alone (since she was supposed to come back in 2 days and stayed ... a week). So what happened? The cats got vast quantities of dry food, a tiny bit extra wet (I don't give my cat wet, but she gives them tons... her cats, her call I guess), lots of water, and they got left alone for about 3.5 days. And they're fine. In fact, one of them is getting quite fat despite the no-wet-food diet he was on briefly.

If you think that's bad, we feed ours three times a day. Boris gets wet food in the morning and at night and dry in the middle of the day. Natasha gets fed dry (generally) when he gets fed, otherwise he'd eat all her food. This may sound crazy, but due to this diet, Boris has lost 5lbs and has managed to keep it off.

Wet food is actually better for cats than dry because it has more protein, which is most of what a cat's natural diet consists of anyway.

I think this is like the coffee is good for you because it helps your heart, it's bad for you because it's addictive and has other negative effects argument. Two sides to it. But I've had 3 vets now tell me adult cats should not have wet food. And yeah, feeding more times a day is better for weight for humans and cats. Unfortunately, when you have a doctoral student (or two, depending on if I'm there or not) responsible for your care, you don't have time or presence to feed more often. But we are working on an auto-feeder fund for the cat so she can eat 4 times a day (and not wake us up at 6am for her food).

Oh, and this is me, I just can't log in at school atm, cause if I do I'll get more side-tracked.

it was good to see you at faire.

I know what you mean about the faire cast. It's a first year faire, and most of the paid actors on cast are coming from a stage acting kind of thing (I think?) so that may be where the wierdness comes from. And, also, to be fair, there's a HUGE plot going on with the main actors that is fairly time sensitive and gives them too much to do, too many places to be, and too many lines to memorize (just my humble opinion.) bottom line: Too scheduled and scripted, actors possibly not used to improv.

There is also a bit of awkwardness sometimes where it almost seems the audience doesn't get that we're not TV, so yes, they can talk to us and we can see them and stuff.

The Pirates have been out getting in trouble, encouraging vendors to subscribe to our protection service, mugging and getting into patron's photographs, flirting and carrying on...but sometimes it seems like we're the only ones doing that.

I am hoping that next yr, the actors won't be so over scheduled with places to go and things to do and lines to say, so that they can have time to chill and visit with the patrons, and also that they'll be more comfortable with that part of their job. If you're comfortable with it, drop a line to the fair management. I know the entertainment director Zane is interested in feedback from faire patrons.
