athene: (wedding kiss)
Last night after I helped [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith check to make sure the check book matched what the CU says we have (it does. I always find that exciting!), I turned to him and said that I may not say it enough, but I really appreciate how he is so good at keeping the accounts balanced and how thankful I am that he's willing to do something I'm so horrible at.

A few minutes later, he turned to me and said that he really appreciated me for keeping the calendar, including all the birthdays because he's not very good at that. It was really nice to hear him say that. It was also kind of surprising to me. Even though we've been together for almost 12 years, I had no idea that he wasn't good at keeping events and birthdays straight in a calendar. I think that I didn't notice because it's so easy for me to do so and I'm really good at using calendar programs and pulling the appropriate Google calendar feeds where I can. And I guess I'm just naturally good at remembering what's coming up. I would occasionally get annoyed that he wouldn't remember what was coming up, since he had access to all of the same information and tools that I did. But now it's different. I now view managing the calendar as my job in the same way that I view managing the finances as his job.

I'm continually amazed at how well Aerith and I generally work together. I'm also amazed at how just saying "I appreciate that you do x" can really make someone's day (which shouldn't be surprising, but it is).
