Gamer Chicks
Mar. 28th, 2002 10:50 pmI am designing a webpage for a class at Smith about gamer-chicks. I am looking for quotes by gamer-chicks about being a gamer-chick. I am also looking for what exactly makes a gamer-chick (ie: being into rpgs, holding your own against the guys, etc)
If you have any quotes or quick stories (not more than 10 lines or so) about being a gamer-chick or just a list of things that gamer-chicks have to do, please e-mail me at athene@livejournal.com. Please include what name you want me to use for you on the site and if you want me to set it up so that people can e-mail you.
Thanks a lot!
Athene
P.S. to see the page (there really isn't much to it yet) go to

There should be a link to quotes; I just can't think of 'em right now. I don't mean to overwhelm you, either, it's just a wealth of gamer quote-deliciousness.
I've found that being a gamer chick really varies from one gaming circle to another. I'm currently in 3 games, 1 of which just feels like family- lots of good friends who don't think about gender, 1 of which hasn't had any women but me in the past two years (they are in a kind-of awe, I think), and a larp that kindof underestimates women, which is funny as all hell, because most of us control our clans or are very powerful players. I think it's more than "holding your own against the guys" I think you underestimate yourself if you think all you can do is hold your own. And like any gaming dynamics, sometimes you are the top-dog leader, sometimes you're the underestimated under-dog, sometimes you're part of the team but not the leader, and sometimes you're the evil fiend they don't see coming until the last moment.
