On Friday when I went in to the Birthing Center for my nonstress test, I got my membranes swept. This was probably around 2pm or so. Came home. Got some work done. Around 4:30pm I was resting on the bed when I started to feel cramping and my hips started to hurt. I didn’t think I could possibly be in labor yet, and the cramping wasn’t totally letting up. But then I started using my timing app and found out that the contractions were about 7 minutes apart and lasting just under a minute. Somehow I still couldn’t believe that I was in labor, mainly because I’d never heard of hip pain happening. I spent a lot of time on the toilet exiting my bowels and making it through that way. I also spent some time leaning on the railing by the stairs and leaning over the bed. At about 7:30pm I was at my computer and then felt a contraction so I stood against the wall. I felt a pop and a gush, so I was pretty sure my water had broken. I called the Birthing Center hotline and also my doula, Namaste. The midwife on call was Mary. She said that I could keep laboring at home and she’d call me back around 10pm if she hadn’t heard from me. An hour, and a lot of hip pain later, my contractions were at 4.5 minutes apart, lasting about a minute. Sometime after that I was feeling tired so I tried to rest, but it wasn’t working. Around 9:30 I knew I was not managing the hip pain well. It just wouldn’t go away, no matter what I did, so I asked Namaste to come over. At 10pm Mary called and I was contracting every 3-4 minutes, lasting for around a minute. Mary said it would take her 30 minutes to get to the Birthing Center and which room did I want. I had originally wanted the Santa Fe room, but since they changed it to the Barcelona room, the Windsor room was more appealing to me. I set a timer for 20 minutes because I knew it took 10 minutes to get to the Birthing Center.

Today at yoga I had 3 amazing experiences that I want to write down before the feeling goes away.

The first experience was when we were sitting at the beginning of class with our hands pressed together at the heart (anjali mudra) and sang "Om" three times. When I started singing it the first time, there was this double outline of gold around and above me in the shape of a seated goddess with a round, womanly belly. It was a feeling light and joy and being enveloped inside of the Goddess. The vision and feeling continued throughout the chanting.

The second experience was when we were doing pigeon pose. We had done it already with the left leg in front and it was alright. Then we switched over to the right leg in front and the left leg behind us. I brought my hands a little further forward than where they started and lifted my heart up and all of a sudden I was in yoga pose bliss. I was just so happy to be exactly as I was that I couldn't stop smiling. Normally I have somewhat of a hard time supporting myself with my arms for a long time, but I felt as if I could have stayed there forever. It was amazing! Just totally amazing.

The third experience happened almost directly after the second when I came down from stretching out in downwards facing dog into child's pose. I saw golden light behind my eyes and just felt love for everyone, acceptance of others love, and the willingness to give my love and accept their love in whatever forms and however much it is possible without any judgement on quantity.

I tried to hold on to that last feeling for as long as possible, but as the weather turned rainy and I had trouble with another pose, it became harder. However, by writing it down, I'm remembering what those experiences felt like and I know in my heart that I am open to them and can and will have them again.

For Lent

Even though I'm not Catholic, I like to make a change in my life for Lent. Maybe it's because I find it easier to set a period of time for that change. Maybe because I think that Mardi Gras is an awesome holiday. For some reason Lent resonates with me as a time to make a change (instead of all those big changes that we "make" a New Years).

Instead of giving up something for Lent, I tend to try to change or add something helpful/healthy for me. A few years ago I gave up "not exercising." I started doing this 15 minute short workout before work. Then I stopped because they rotated it off of On-Demand. I don't remember if I did anything last year or the year before. But this year I've decided to add "doing yoga" for Lent. I've been wanting to get back to it for a while now. My goal is to do yoga at least twice a week, either by taking a class, doing at least 15 minutes of Yoga exercises on the Wii Fit, or just some time on my own. Already made plans with [livejournal.com profile] circoea to go to YogaYoga tomorrow after work for a beginning Hatha Yoga class. I'm excited.

When seated in cobbler's pose, one should not decide to practice rib isolations, no matter how much one wants to dance to the music.

So, while [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith is playing PS2 games I'm going to try to recap all of May.

May was really busy, so I didn't have a chance to write nearly as much as I wanted to. I hope that I'm going to remember everything that I want to say.

May started off with Beltane and Drum and Dance. )

On May 10 I met up with [livejournal.com profile] modernaphrodite and [livejournal.com profile] muninwing to see really bad girly gymnastics movie. Ran into [livejournal.com profile] honor_knight while I was waiting for them. Convinced him to come see the movie with us. I think that I liked the movie more than bad girly fairy-tale movie but less than bad girly runs to england movie and bad girly cheerleader movie. It's probably on par with bad girly ice skater movie. I really did like what the gymnasts did a the meet and I think that I got my money's worth from the lay-over of everyone's routines while they were each in different colors bit that they did during the in gym competition. [livejournal.com profile] safirerings, I really missed you!

The next week aerith and i went to Svaroopa Yoga class at InSpirit Common, which I already wrote about. We have since bought a 10 class pass each and have gone twice more. It's been really good for both of us.

On the weekend of the 20th, Aerith and I headed down to the DC area. I wrote a backdated post to cover that trip. There are pictures, so you should go look at it :)

When we got home from DC, [livejournal.com profile] artemis42 and [livejournal.com profile] daobear were there. We started to watch Kiss Me Kate when the power went out (even though the storm had passed...I found out later that something knocked out a power line somewhere very close by). So we played the Mad Magazine Board Game, which is like backwards Monopoly. My mom called part way through the game, so the other's played without me. Then I taught [livejournal.com profile] daobear how to play Quarto by candle light, which was really cool. At one point the lights came back on, flickered and then turned off again. A little while later they finally came back on and we finished the movie.

The last weekend in May [livejournal.com profile] pyramus came to visit. We hung out with him for most of the weekend, which was fun. Got to grill salmon on Saturday. mmm. Also I finally ate at Paul and Elizabeth's in town. It was very good. The three of us went to see X-3. It was umm..ok. This says a lot of what I felt. Introduced pyramus to Avatar: The Last Airbender. Such a fun show.

On Monday we headed down to [livejournal.com profile] kiten and [livejournal.com profile] doctorjekyll's for a bbq. Aerith and I had bought a bison steak from Whole Foods. We let it marinate for a good 2-3 hours. It was so good! Also had lots of other food and got to see people and try to spin fuzzy poi (i kept hitting myself).

Other things that happen throughout the month...umm...we got to barbecue a bunch. I told my boss that I'm leaving in August (but I haven't given official notice yet) and started apartment searching in Austin. Oh, and Lost. We watched Lost. Lots of it. As in finished season 1 and got most of the way through season 2. We would have finished season 2 THIS weekend, if episode 2-21 was actually 2-21 and not 1-1.
