I'm employed! Starting next Monday I'll be working at Convio as an Interactive Specialist. Yay!!

Actually, I had to choose between them and an offer for a position in New Orleans, but after having many conversations, [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I decided that it would be better for both of us for me to take the job in Austin.

In funny news, as I was leaving the Convio parking lot, I got a call from a State agency asking me if I wanted to come in for an interview for a Web Developer position that I had applied for ages ago. It was a lot of fun to tell them, "No thank you, I just took a new job." It's weird, I heard almost nothing for two months and then all of a sudden I'm in high demand. I guess it's good to be wanted.

Congrats! ^_^

Now, I still have the option of visiting you in Austin. (That is if I ever get a chance to get out of this crazy city.)

You're not telling the whole story. As I recall, they yoinked it when you posted the salary, not the fact that you posted that you have a job.

I am, but I also don't think it's fair to poo poo Athene's new job based on your very different experience. It's like saying "Oh, Apple makes a horrible product and it breaks constantly I'm never ever gonna buy from them again" but not mentioning that the reason it broke was that you poured OJ on it. :P

That said, I also think they possibly are in violation of unionizing laws by doing what they did to you, but I didn't know that at the time. :/

posting other people's salary might be like it breaking from pouring OJ on it, posting my salary is like it breaking from drinking OJ while using it.

I think that is impolite to post salary or other major financial issues publicly on the internet. To me it is the same as talking about it at a work function or a party with acquaintances.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with Convio.

This is my journal and I say that thread ends now. Any further comments to this thread will be deleted.

Glad to hear the very good news.

not only because , well , its good news for you.. but its a ray of hope I'll mention to all the folks I know who are hunting right NOW (which state agency is looking for a web developer btw? I know someone I'd love to gently nudge in thier direction)
