No wonder we have such a distorted perception of what is beautiful...

1. Go to http://www.iwanexstudio.com/.
2. Click on portfolio.
3. Pick a celebrity picture from the thumbnails.
4. Mouse over to see what the the photo looked like when it was taken. Mouse out to see what the final photoshoped version (that was printed in a magazine) looked like.
5. Click on the picture to make it go away & pick another one.
6. Repeat until fully disgusted with print media and how it distorts our perceptions.

Feel free to pass it on.

There's a lot of cool things you can do with adjusting skin tones and softening wrinkles, brightening eyes and such in Photoshop - BUT I keep finding that I like most of the originals more than the "after" images. Mostly because the "after" images are too high contrast and the color is over-saturated almost to a point that hurts my eyes.

Also, I get a kick out of it when they "adjust" the model's body (See Salma Hayek's ribcage for one) into the "right" position - even though the anatomy was right in the original! :D

Not To Be A Pain, But...

That's actually Penelope Cruz not Salma Hayek. (I am in love with Salma...)

Agreed..

Some of them look more like a cartoon than actual people. I know this sounds very cliche, but I feel sorry for people who don't understand that the true beauty of a person has nothing to do with their appearance.

If you scroll on and off in time to music, it looks like they're dancing.

I love how they couldn't find any way to improve halle barry.

...I think it's fine to add startling sparkles to eyes or get rid of unflattering shadows, or make adjustments to create a better photograph. But you're right, if it means people think they're bad or unusual for having tummy wrinkles or fat wrists, then it's damaging.

What I found most interesting was the celebrities that they ADDED weight too.

Really, what struck me was about half the women they made skinnier, and the other half they made fatter because they had the sickly anorexia thing going on. And no wonder everyone looks like they have boob jobs in magazines; they give them to them after the photo.

Interestingly, Cate Blanchette looked more beautiful before the photoshopping. Most everyone else clearly could use less stress and a healthier diet.

I also found it kind of crappy to remove freckles from people's faces, whiting them out until they look sculpted.. but I find freckles sexy.

Nevermind the gross rearranging of flesh after the fact.. *shudders*

Real photos are awesome. Retouching sucks.

actually, i thought the photochopping was pretty bad. people used to retouch photos in the darkroom; now they do it on a computer. the difference is that retouching actual photos takes skill.

fascinating...

i agree with everybody else above. i also found it interesting that they smoothed out the lines of women who were too muscular. they also really changed the facial lines of one of the guys to make him look boyish when i think he looked better as a more mature face in the original. and everybody's facial contours and cheekbones were filled in or softened. the weirdest thing was the skewed hips or breasts. if somebody really tried to stand like that, they'd dislocate something...

Weird. I knew that they touched things up to improve skin tone and remove blemishes, but they also enhanced the sizes of the women's breasts and the men's shoulders and biceps. Creepy.

Oh, that is just freaky! It's nice to know that these supermodels have about my complexion. I just don't have a professional Photoshop photographer taking my pictures.
