It looks more and more like it would be a better idea for Aerith and I to buy a place, espcially b/c there are places for sale in our apartmet complex that we could most likely aford. The thing is that means at least another 2 years in the area. The problem with that is that I'm not really all that intreagued with grad schools at UMass. I don't want to "settle" for something. I don't want Aerith to have to "settle" for something either. But maybe I should look at everything in my life that makes me happy and weigh it against "settling" for everything that is just ok and see how it comes out.

*sigh* The more I look at all the graduate programs Tufts offers, the more I want to go there. Of course, they're one of the few grad schools I've looked that that doesn't seem to do much for tuition wavers or stypends.

ahh...the big question.

something classics related. classics or classical studies or classical archeology. or theatre with a focus in translations. or museum or library studies.

the problem is that my greek and latin aren't that strong. and i don't know any modern languages (well...a smidgen of french)

the idea was to apply to all interesting looking programs for admission in Fall 2004 and see which ones I got into and what they would give me. yup, that was the idea. Maybe I'll just put it off for another year.

have you looked at the University of Pennsylvania's Post-Bac program in Classics? It's a really fabulous 1-year program that will prep you for a masters degree in a classics-related field, basically anywhere you want to go. It's geared towards people who love the classics, but don't have their languages up to speed. Plus you can take all the Penn classes you want. Philly has a thriving theatre scene, and rent is REALLY cheap (200-500 per month for West Philly)

If you decide to stay in the area, check out UMass' continuing ed to brush up on your languages (besides tutoring me, of course) before grad school.

**huge hugs for Athene**

It's not easy to see the way forward, but it is easy to see the way we've come. Don't settle. Nothing makes the view as you look back quite as ugly as 'settling'. Do what makes you happy, be with who makes you happy. My ex's mom says, "It never pays to get cheap bras or cheap shoes." The same can be said of experiences. There's got to be another way it can all work the way you'd love. May She send you the wisdom to find that way.
