Dentist

[livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I went to the dentist yesterday for a preliminary visit. Haven't been in 4 years, not for lack of dental insurance or from fear of dentists, but from fear of finding a new dentist. See, I loved my dentist that I had when I a kid and I loved my dentist in Massachusetts (after going to one once that I didn't like). So I was scared of trying to find one that a. I liked and that b. took my insurance. It's a lot harder to find a dentist in a BIG city because there are so many damn choices (also, every time I got a recommendation, that person wasn't on my insurance...). Anyway, finally picked one. I like that this place is willing to see Aerith and I at the same time.

The result of the trip: NO CAVITIES (haha!) but I do need to floss more often. Also, I grind my teeth pretty badly at night (ahh...now we know our source of jaw tightness/popping). So badly that I've worn down the point on my right canine. Also, they took digital pictures and showed them to me so I could see where some of the enamel was being worn off of my teeth in the back on the right. Which was actually kinda cool. When do you ever get to look at your teeth close-up like that? Final conclusion: have an appointment in two weeks for a cleaning and to get fitted for a nightguard.

Aerith also has no cavities (we are awesome!) but has a dead tooth and so that will need some work.

which one did you go to in MA? I'm trying to find one that is willing to deal with my long running dental phobia.

I have such a good dentist here that if I ever move, I'll still continue to come to her, even if it means flying back to Dallas from ... wherever ... twice a year! I have horrible dental phobias AND weak enamel. This is a terrible combination. :) I, too, hate LOOKING for new health care providers. Maybe not as much as you, but I totally get it.

Yay on the NO CAVITIES report.

Yay! No cavities for you! I'm gonna need to see a dentist soon for a general check up, it's been over 10 years. Who's your new dentist here in ATX?

BTW, that is *such* a cute userpic you used on this post. :)

KC Dental on Parmer & McNeil.

Thanks! It's my senior yearbook pic from college. Yes, that bit of my hair is blonde...ah, college.

I have crappy gums, and for years they kept telling me to floss and I kept "forgetting." Then I came up with a routine that works: I'm allowed to read in bed (or do crosswords, if Kyle does the writing) as long as I'm flossing. Now I do a *lot* of flossing! :)

I haven't worn mine in over two years. I had to have $600 worth of work done today. Some of that's soda, some of that's acid reflux, but I was told most of that was not wearing the nightguard. Make damn sure you wear yours.
