That makes no sense whatsoever - didn't they just give you additional job duties? Did they give you any feedback at all about "fitting in?"
I know that at Apple they have a distinct and set performance management tract - it might be worth seeing what UT has, since you may be able to object under their stated policies. If nothing else, filing for unemployment might be made less difficult if you put an objection on record.
