I think I just made the day of someone who works at Barnes & Noble. I called my local one and when the person answered the phone I said, "Hi, do you have X book by Y author." His response, "Now, that's the way to ask for a book." I guess he gets a lot of requests for books by people who have no idea what they're looking for. Of course even though the computer said that should have a copy, he couldn't find it. *pout*.

don't be silly. isbn's are (almost-nearly) definitive. of course, now that i think about it, most people would probably get the digits wrong, anyway. people certainly get names and titles wrong. he must have been new, but not quite so new that he hasn't dealt with normal levels of inanity.
