athene: (Supermom)
Dear lord are our weekends busy in March.

First weekend we went to the Kite Festival. Decided it's not really worth going back until Little Prince is at least 4.

This past weekend we worked Sherwood Forset Faire on Saturday. Loads of fun. I love that Faire so much.

This coming weekend is a friend's annual crawfish boil, a free k's choice show as part of SXSW, and I actually kind of want to go to the UU church for Ostara.

The weekend after that we're working Faire on Saturday again.

Then it's Easter weekend and my dad and step-mom will be in town. It's also TableTopDay that Saturday, and we might try to go to Faire one more time.

Then it's the first weekend of April and PBF.

Then we collapse in a heap and never leave our house again, except to buy food, until there are more interesting things to do or it's time to head to New Orleans for Memorial Day weekend/Little Prince's Birthday.

A week ago today my mom and sister came into town.

Friday during the day I showed mom how to make cake pops (or how to start them at least), we started making food for Seder, I took a half day at work, and mom and I went shopping for stuff for the cake pops. The problem with cake pops is that you need to create a display for them. So we went to Hobby Lobby and got some floral foam and some fake moss so we could make a "nest" for the dinosaur egg cake pops.

Friday night some friends came over and we had Passover Seder. It was very nice to have Seder with my family and friends, even if the evening was a touch more irreverent that I would have liked. We got to eat at the table (if you don't know the store of the table, ask [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith about it some time. I even had a touch of wine for each of the glasses of wine one must drink (and I buy the GOOD Kosher wine).

Saturday was get up and finish the cake pops with mom. Then finish cleaning the house (aka stuff things that shouldn't be out in rooms that will be closed off) while [livejournal.com profile] queencimmy, Byskwik, and mom got the last of the party things (including decorations).

Our baby shower was fantastic. You can read all about it and see tons of pictures from it on my pregnancy blog.

After the shower, mom, Cimmy, and I watched the last episode of Treme Season 1. We all got a bit emotional. Big surprise.

Then all four of us went out to a birthday party for some friends, but we didn't stay too long.

Sunday mom and I got up early and had a really wonderful talk. Then she and Cimmy had to leave and Aerith and I collapsed into exhaustion.

Yesterday I did my first full laundry load of baby clothing. So much and yet it all fit easily into the washer and dryer.

Over the weekend, [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I attended PolyBigFun. Every year we get better at knowing what we need. This year, in addition to rope to tie the beds together, we got one of those eggshell mattress topper things from Walmart. I think it really helped make the prisoner beds (no really, they are made by inmates, they have tags saying so) more comfortable. We were in a different cabin this time than previous times, which had a lights out and was also super close to the bathroom. Very very good when one is 35 weeks (5 weeks from one's due date) pregnant.

The weekend itself was wonderful as always. I didn't attend as many workshops as I wanted to, partly because there weren't a lot of descriptions so it was sometimes hard to tell what the workshop was about and partly because I spent a lot of my time either engaged in conversation with others or resting. We seem to need a lot of rest these days. The workshops I did attend and the conversations I had were all really great.

There were two parts that really stick out in my mind. The first was acceptance from the poly parents who were there with their children. They let me ask them questions about birth and children and being poly with children. I really felt accepted by them. In fact, some of them even went out of their way to friend me on Facebook. I feel more comfortable about how next year will go when Aerith and I are in the family cabin with the baby.

The other part that was important was my 1am talk with the baby and the moon that I wrote about on my pregnancy blog. If you haven't been over there in a while and are interested, I have some new posts and new pictures on the pictures page.

Every day Boris looks to be moving better and better. This is a good thing. We will still be keeping an eye on him to see how he is progressing.

In other news, The Mad Russian was visiting me all weekend. Hurray!!! Picked her up at the airport on Friday night and took her to Kerby Lane for food. Then hung out with her at home for a while and chatted. At some point [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith decided that he had to show her Tron. I wanted to watch it again, but ended up falling sound asleep on the couch.

Saturday Aerith and I got up early and picked up breakfast tacos from Jardin Corona for everyone. Yum! I started the chicken soup and then TMR and I headed out. I drove her around UT campus and downtown and then we walked around the shops on South Congress. Got home, rested for a bit, made latkas and waited for people who never showed up :(. So we lit the menorah and had really good latkas and chicken soup and after we were done, [livejournal.com profile] moonwick stopped by. So we hung out for a bit with him. After he left we all hung out for a bit more.

Sunday we had a lazy morning. In the afternoon TMR and I went shopping, mostly for maternity clothing for me. Met up with Aerith and KR17 (Aerith's new girl-type-person), for dinner at Rudy's BBQ. Sent KR17 home with chicken soup for her boyfriend who was not feeling well. Introduced TMR to The Soup and hung out some more. Basically, when TMR and I get together, we just talk for hours and hours. :)

TMR left this morning. Now I have to organize and decorate my new desk at work (my department got moved).

There is a new post in my pregnancy blog.

On Friday night [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I went formal dress bowling with friends on Friday. We hadn't gotten dressed up in suits and dresses and gone bowling since college. We went to The Highball, which is seriously swanky. With all of us all dressed up, we fit in with the decor way better than anyone else there. In fact, one of the servers said that we were his favorite table ever because we looked like we fit in with the place (it was either that or we were all 1920s mobsters or extras on the set of Mad Men). The bowling itself was hell of a lot of fun. It took me a little while to remember which hand I bowl better with (it's my right). Out of my group, I totally lost, but it was fabulously fun, so I didn't care.

Saturday involved errands and a lot of WoW. :)

On Sunday Aerith and I went to the Yummy Living Foods tasting at Marigold - Gateway to India. Yummy Living Foods is all natural, gluten-free, vegan desserts. The food is OMG yummy. The chocolate decadence was so good as were the brownies and well, everything I tried. It's so dangerous for me to know about Marigold's. I think I wanted to buy just about everything I saw there.

Sunday evening Aerith and I played Boom Blox on the Wii. It involves making lots of throwing motions. Between that and the bowling on Friday, my arm is all sorts of sore today.

Life's been crazy busy, in a good way. So here's a quick list of what's going on:

• The Sunday before last [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I rolled up 3.5/3.75 characters for a run. It's the typical gamer ratio (7 guys and me). My character's already annoying everyone. :)

• Last Monday I went to a Marian Call house concert. She's amazing. She's touring all 50 states, so go find out when she'll be in a city/town near you and go see her. She's a total nerd and cute too. Oh, and she'll be performing at the SDCC w00tstock! There were many nerds there and we all flocked together. Flirted with a guy who works at Blizzard. Hey, anything to get into the Cataclysm beta, right? ;)

• This last Friday was [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith's and my fifth wedding anniversary. Year 5 is the wood anniversary. Don't worry, we already went there. We both took Friday and Monday off from work. Friday we went to Schlitterbaun (which is becoming our anniversary tradition). The rides there really are the best! After riding tons of rides on both sides of the park, we headed back to Austin and went to the Melting Pot for the first time. Very nice. They found out it was our anniversary and brought us complimentary champaign with dessert.

• Saturday night we went to the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Austin's production of "Yeoman of the Guard" with [livejournal.com profile] moonwick and [livejournal.com profile] byskwik. Is a rather interesting opera. Not quite so light and airy as their usual fair and a weird ending.

• The rest of our four day weekend was spend lounging around, getting stuff off of the DVR, playing WoW, and cleaning up the house a bit.

• Work is going well. I'm starting to teach more. I'm developing curriculum for a new feature coming out in our Summer release, which is kind of like shooting a moving target. Oh, and work's sending me to Boston in mid-August to teach four days of classes. The current plan is for [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I to go up together a few days early and see people and then he'll head home while I teach. Let me know if you want to see us.

• Other than that, life is busy with work, husband, cats, yoga, social engagements, friends, and WoW.

Got home from PolyBigFun a little while ago. Have taken a bath and caught up on email, LJ, and other social networking things. Am super tired and sore, but am trying to stay awake so can get to bed early.

PBF itself was very good. Had a good time hanging out and talking to people. Took a lot of workshops that were good food for thought. Learned some things about myself that I need to look at more closely. Also learned a good way of expressing what was going on that made a conversation that could have been really bad and angry go really really well. Also, [livejournal.com profile] faeriecritter is made of many types of awesome. Also made of awesome: [livejournal.com profile] savanni, [livejournal.com profile] saphirebear, [livejournal.com profile] oracle_tx and everyone else who worked so hard to make the weekend as awesome as it was.

Ok, time to pet the kitty on my lap and go be brain dead.
athene: (me profile - ren)
Friday night [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith went to go see How to Train Your Dragon. It was a fairly typical kids movie plot, but ZOMG SO CUTE! Want dragon!!! We went to the Lake Creek Drafthouse where that night they were also playing all three Evil Dead movies and so some of the waitstaff were dressed up like zombies. It was truly awesome.

Saturday we headed over to [livejournal.com profile] pyroyo007's for his annual crawfish boil (after feeding [livejournal.com profile] byskwik's cats). We were only going to stay for a little while, but I ended up staying for a long time (Aerith had another thing, so he left and then came back). Mmmm...crawfish.

That night we were going to do one of the 4 or 5 different things that we knew of, but we were so dead from the day that we came home, had ice cream and crashed (after feeding [livejournal.com profile] byskwik's cats).

Sunday I got up and went to a brunch meeting (after feeding [livejournal.com profile] byskwik's cats). After the meeting I drove home, picked up [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and our Ren garb and headed out to Sherwood Forest Faire. Took us about an hour to get there (we got a little confused a few times...especially because the right turn after turning off of 290 isn't well marked) and another 20 or so to get dressed due to laces and winds and dust.

The faire itself was really nice. I think it was a great size with lots of artists, vendors, musicians, etc. OMG, the Italian food place! Got to see the Austin Browncoats, my friends at Abzu Emporium, and listen to the lovely Tulstin Troubadours. I got my hair braided really pretty with flowers and glitter and everything. [livejournal.com profile] knighthorse took pictures and hopefully a few came out well.

The only thing that really disappointed me about the faire was the lack of interaction between the Faire's actors and the faire goers. I almost literally ran into Robin Hood at one point, but nothing...not that I have a character or anything, but aren't they supposed to?

Came home and pretty much fell over.
athene: (happy)
I've been having an excellent weekend!

On Friday night [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I went over to [livejournal.com profile] byskwik house for Asian food night. Lots of yummy food and good conversation was had. Much talk about New Orleans and the Saints, but I guess that's inevitable when you have 5 Louisiananians in one room.

On Saturday morning I had a massage with [livejournal.com profile] bouncyone, which was very nice and relaxing. Also bought his Wii and Wii Fit from him as he was getting rid of it. Now we have a Wii. Spent time on Saturday afternoon setting it up and playing with it. Aerith's really gotten into Super Mario Galaxy (which is what he's playing as I type this).

Saturday evening we went over to [livejournal.com profile] saphirebear and [livejournal.com profile] davobear house for dinner (tacos) and a movie (Disney's Robin Hood) with them and their kiddos. Got lots of love and snuggles from the 5-year-old. :) After the kids went to bed there was hot tubbing and good conversation. My favorite part of the whole evening: hearing the kiddos laugh like crazy over some of the jokes in the movie that I used to find hysterical.

Today Aerith and I got up and went out to look at Wii stuff. We ended up at Fry's where I used the power of my iPhone to get us price matching on some accessories. Came home, did some relaxing and some cleaning and I did 20 minutes of Wii Fit workout. I'm going to really try and do some every day to every other day.

I am so glad that January is over as of midnight. It was a really wretched January for a lot of people, myself included. So fuck you January 2010. I won't miss you.
athene: (hi how are you)
Had a really good weekend.

[livejournal.com profile] gailmom came into town on Thursday, which is always awesome. We got curtains for our front windows made by the amazing [livejournal.com profile] apryl_knight.

Friday I left work a little early because I'd already worked over 42 hours and [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I went to the store and then came home and napped for too long. Then I made my starting-to-become-famous apple cobbler (I pretty much used this recipe from How to Cook Everything, except I modify the filling based on Jill's Apple Pie filling from More from Magnolia. It came out so much better now that I have a 9x9x2 square pan. The apples kind of caramelized around the sides of the pan.

Friday night [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith, [livejournal.com profile] gailmom and I headed to a party with the apple cobbler in hand. Was a very nice party. The cobbler went over really well, especially since I was able to heat it up in the oven. It was decided that it would go amazingly well with some of Amy's Mexican Vanilla ice cream.

Saturday morning we had to get up early-ish and clean clean clean for the small housewarming gathering that we were holding that day. Also, as it was the day after [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith's birthday I made him a chocolate Garfield cake.

The housewarming party went really well. I love that we now have a place where we can have people over without it being too crowded. I don' t think anyone hung out upstairs almost at all and there was still a ton of room downstairs. Thanks to everyone who came! To everyone who didn't, we missed you.

The funniest part of the party was when the 5 year old daughter of a friend decided to crawl into the box at the bottom of our cat structure. I had no idea a 5 year old could even fit in there, but apparently she is an amazing contortionist. Not only was she able to climb into the box, but she even managed to turn herself around, which was very impressive. Pictures have been emailed to her mother for future embarrassment.

Saturday night we ended up staying up really late hanging out with friends and cleaning up from the party.

Today we got up really late. We decided that we needed cuddling on the couch while eating breakfast and watching the last episode of Mythbusters. We were about to get comfy when the girl-cat pushed over a pillow from the back of the couch, knocking over a large glass of OJ. Cue massive clean-up effort. At least the episode (when we finally got to watch it), was good. Then Miss Gail had to go home. After she got in her car, she asked me to get her a Dublin Dr. Pepper from the mini-fridge upstairs to drink on the road. When I went to open it for her, I spilled some of it it on top of the fridge, on the wall, and down my white skirt. *sigh*I guess because there was no major party foul, the gods decided to make it up to us the next day.

But, then the Saints won (5-0 baby! Who dat???) and there were Empire apples at my local H-E-B when I went grocery shopping so that made up for the morning.
athene: (pagan)
Had a really fantastic weekend.

Friday I made chocolate cupcakes with chocolate raspberry icing, adapted from the Magnolia Bakery cookbook. They turned out awesomely yummy. Yay.

Friday night [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I went over to [livejournal.com profile] spottedvasa, [livejournal.com profile] shadow_nite2, and [livejournal.com profile] bouncyone's house for Rock Band. Got to hang out with awesome people like [livejournal.com profile] lorelein, [livejournal.com profile] gryphynkit, [livejournal.com profile] eliset, and [livejournal.com profile] moonwick. I sang two songs. Aerith said that he thought I sang really well. Yay! All those months of karaoke and Rock Band are paying off :).

Me with Peaches and MonkeySaturday we got up early and drove to Bryan, TX to surprise [livejournal.com profile] gailmom with cupcakes ([livejournal.com profile] gryphynshadow was in on it). The plan was to put up a chicken coop, but it was too cold and windy out, so we ended hanging out with really awesome people instead. In the afternoon, Gail's kids, Peaches (5) and Monkey (3), showed up. GS made us all laugh by giving them rides and then sliding them across the floor (aka "bowling with babies"). The kids soon decided that I was fun. It started with Peaches climbing into my arms. Then there was, in no order: playing Snakes and Ladders with Monkey while Peaches, dresses as Spiderman, climbed all over everything; playing Pooh Bingo with the two of them in Peaches' room; cuddling with Peaches and Gail which quickly turned into a tickle fight; sitting on the couch with Aerith while Peaches sat between us; crawling after Monkey under the table; and laying down with Peaches on the beanbag chairs in the play room while she watched a DVD.

[livejournal.com profile] dyionisiac made a really yummy lunch, which due to being on call, she didn't get to enjoy. It was nice to sit down with everyone, including the kiddos. There was a really nice pagan grace that was said but I don't remember it. At some point in the evening, after the kids went to their dad's, [livejournal.com profile] gryphynshadow was making dinner and [livejournal.com profile] dyionisiac, [livejournal.com profile] todfox, and I pulled out our laptops and played the "have you heard this geeky song" game. It was a lot of fun. :). Dinner was yummy too. After dinner there were Clue-by-four tarot readings. [livejournal.com profile] gryphynshadow sure doesn't pull any reading punches when she's tipsy. It's funny. Then there was more hanging out and cuddling and stuff.

On Sunday we all got up really really late...There were pancakes for breakfast and then we all gathered around Gail's computer to watch President Obama's most recent YouTube address. I really love my president! Finally [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I headed back to Austin to give some love to our poor hungry kitties. Got to check in with [livejournal.com profile] artemis42, which is always a pleasure.

Sunday night we watched Dollhouse. Holy plot twist Batman. I think I'm still picking my jaw off the floor. Then we played WoW for a while. We got Durkonian and Morriae (our Dwarves) to level 30 and got mounts for both of them. Hurray!

Friday night [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I dragged [livejournal.com profile] syhira to [livejournal.com profile] noeticist's Rock Band party. He'd gotten a bunch of new songs, so that was awesome. One of the new songs was Still Alive from Portal. I had recently memorized this song. When there was a large enough group, I grabbed the mic, picked Still Alive, set my level to Easy, walked up to next to the TV, turned away from the screen and proceeded to sing the whole song without looking at the screen at all (ok, I glanced at it twice to see when to start a verse). I got 98%. I think that's pretty impressive. I only messed up once at the end of the third verse. Next time [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith says if I keep my eyes open he'll cue me when to activate Star Power/Energy Phrase/Whatever it's called.

The rest of the Rock Band party was also a lot of fun. Got to see [livejournal.com profile] maddaddy, who was looking pretty beat-up after his bad scooter accident last weekend. Also there was this crazy thunderstorm going on outside with amazing bursts of lightening. Also, I learned that if I'm going to sing something funny that isn't the actual lyrics, don't laugh because it will throw off my score.

Saturday [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I decided that we needed to go to Kerbey Lane for brunch. I had a pancake and a potato, egg, and cheese breakfast taco. Yes, I willingly ordered a breakfast taco. Lookout, I may be turning into an Austinite.

Saturday afternoon the plan was to get some work done and then head over to Eeyore's Birthday, but I ended up with so much more to do than I thought that we didn't get to go. Well, next year, I hope.

Yesterday evening [livejournal.com profile] syhira came back over and we watched the new episode of BSG. Yay for BSG. I just wonder if there were more Starbuck & crew scenes that they cut out of that episode.

Yesterday night, late, I was really feeling restless (not sure if it was stress, George's visit, something else, or a wacky combination) when I saw that [livejournal.com profile] eliset was heading out to RHPS. I decided that it was just what I needed so I threw on an all-white outfit and met up with her and [livejournal.com profile] soupwiththefork. Had an awesome time screaming obscenities at the screen and watching a pretty fun cast. It really was just what I needed. And [livejournal.com profile] eliset was an awesome sugar mamma, literally, cause she bought me a $5 shake :).

Today the forecast is homework, homework, and more homework.
athene: (Ronia)
This weekend I pretty much finished my paper for Adv. Dig with the exception of the parts that I don't know because I have to call my contact on Monday. Of course, it took me most of the weekend so I haven't gotten much of the other work I was going to get done done.

On Friday instead of going to the gym, [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I grabbed [livejournal.com profile] iskanderia and went to get snoballs at Casey's New Orleans Style SnoBalls. Not as good as Hansen's, but at least they were like New Orleans snoballs and not snocones. Texted AH (who still needs a name) to let her know I had one. She called me a traitor, but I told her that they weren't as good as hers.

Got home and napped for a little while. Don't remember what we did for the rest of the evening.

Saturday - worked on paper. oh, and finished Tangled Webs by Anne Bishop.

That night was Bubbles and Boom's baby shower. (everybody say AWWWW. They're having a faire baby (everybody say "wow, they're nerds"). Even though I was tired and not feeling well, I'm glad we went cause almost everybody was there even Bell was in from Houston! And LuckyStar had this great idea for it. A bunch of people bought white onesies in a variety of sizes as well as non-toxic fabric paint & markers and a bunch of stencils and we decorated them at the party. Now the baby has a whole set of totally unique onesies that were made with love. I told LuckyStar that I'm totally stealing her idea when I get pregant this should become a tradition because it's such an awesome idea.

Today I finished the paper (yay) and made dinner and [livejournal.com profile] syhira came over to watch BSG.

And now, to read gazillion pages on copyright for class on Tuesday.

This weekend should have been amazing. Instead it felt like it alternated between On moments and off moments, which I shall recap in the table below.

On

Off

Having [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith pick me up on Friday night and going to the Dog & Duck for food, where we randomly ran into a good chunk of the iSchool.

It being so packed at the Dog & Duck that we didn't really get to talk to any of them (other than [livejournal.com profile] syhira and her boi who sat with us).

Going to see the Austin Wind Symphony's tribute to video games.

It could have been a lot better than it was. The symphony didn't have a lot of "heart" as [livejournal.com profile] lordaeirth put it. Also, they had 2 video screens which would often project images of the game play. I think that in some ways it distracted from the music, because people were more focused on the video. Also, they had a real chance to make it a true interactive-multimedia performance, but only really interacted with the clips from Super Mario Brothers. It was worth the $8 admission.

My sister, [livejournal.com profile] queencimmy, and her boy, [livejournal.com profile] nola_poet, drove into to visit us this weekend.

Due to traffic & other factors, they didn't get in until 2:30am. We had figured on them showing up around midnight Friday night. This means I didn't get to bed until almost quarter to 4.

On Saturday morning I thought I might have yet another UTI (ooohhh…too much information, right?), but I don't. Still, it didn't make the morning fun.

I got to show [livejournal.com profile] queencimmy and [livejournal.com profile] nola_poet around UT. We went to the HRC where we surprised [livejournal.com profile] nola_poet with an exhibit of the first 40 feet of the original "On the Road" scroll (it's on display until mid-June, I think). After the HRC, I took them to see my second home (aka the iSchool IT Lab). We chilled there for a little bit, walked around a bit more, and then lordaerith and I got yummy yummy food at the Flying Falafel.

I had to return a book to the library and pick up on that had come in. Unfortunately, by the time we got to the library it had closed, so I was only able to do the returning.

We said good-bye [livejournal.com profile] nola_poet and [livejournal.com profile] queencimmy for a little while and got to the Texas Union at 5:30 to be first in line for the Jonathan Coulton show (it started at 9). We were the first people in line by a couple of minutes. [livejournal.com profile] apryl_knight, [livejournal.com profile] cjovalle, qyandri, gruff, [livejournal.com profile] iskanderia, and [livejournal.com profile] lawtalkyguy eventually joined us on line.

While waiting in line, we whipped out Munchkin Cthulhu and I ended up playing a lively game of it with the people who were in line behind us.

We never got to finish the game, because the doors opened up before it was over. At least I wasn't the lowest level at that point.

At one point while waiting, Jonathan Coulton poked his head out to start setting up his merchanidce. [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith asked him if it was okay if we taped him and he said yes as long as it was okay with the venue. I asked him to play "Better" which is one of my favorite songs of his, and he said he would try to.

We ended up with two tables right in front of the stage.

We were trying to save seats behind us for [livejournal.com profile] caelligh and [livejournal.com profile] ethanhunter, but eventually the place was so packed that we had to give them up. After we did that, [livejournal.com profile] caelligh showed up, but she left because at that point it was standing room only. Next time guys, I promise.

The show was AMAZING (as always). There's too much to write up here, so see below for a longer write-up. I will say that he did infact play "Better".

Jonathan Coulton's guitar. It sounded fine to me, but he kept tuning it throughout the night and never seemed quite happy with it.

We got to tape the show.

We didn't tape the funniest part because we were running out of battery power and tape. [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith will never hear the end of it. Also, I didn't grab a DV to Firewire cord when I picked up the Camcorder. Now I can't get the concert off of the tape and onto YouTube. I'm going to have to go to campus to get the cord.

[livejournal.com profile] noeticist's party was still happening by the time we got out of the show.

It was pretty much winding down by the time we go there. But we were able to say hi to a few people, especially [livejournal.com profile] last_bastion and [livejournal.com profile] raenshadoe, who were in from out of town.

My sister got all dressed up to go to the party.

She didn't end up making it because by the time she was about to leave, the party was almost over. Also, [livejournal.com profile] nola_poet's GPS couldn't find the place.

We got up really really late (1pm) on Sunday and therefore weren't able to go to brunch at Kerby Lane.

We did got to [livejournal.com profile] lawtalkyguy's for Super Smash Bros/Rock Band. Queencimmy finally got to meet a good chunk of my friends.

We were only there for a little while.

[livejournal.com profile] queencimmy and [livejournal.com profile] nola_poet had to go home.

I felt…off/close to tears for the rest of the night. No idea why. Bleh.

I discovered that I deleted my "New Pics" folder from my desktop and empty the Trash before I noticed this. This is the folder in which I kept all the pictures from the camera that I have yet to edit & place online. There's a 94% chance that [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith has all of the files on his computer as well. He probably has at least 90% of them.

I took the whole weekend off to spend time with my sister and do fun things.

I already feel like I'm behind on the amount of stuff I have to do over Spring Break.

JoCo Show

The show was awesome (as I said above).

The opening act, Samantha Murphy, was interesting. I like that she played barefoot and was funny enough to keep the audience entertained. Also girl could hold a note.

Jonathan Coulton ended up playing 2 sets because there were so many people who wnated to get in and the show was sold out. I think it had to do with some standing-room-only people leaving so others could see the second set.

I'm sure I could say tons about the whole show all the songs he played, but hopefully I'll have most of the show up on YouTube soon so you can see for yourself. Therefore, I'm just going to give you the highlights (as I see them).

In the first set he played "Better" which had me grinning like crazy the entire time. At the end of "Creepy Doll", [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I held up our iPhones which were displaying lighters on them. JoCo saw us and totally cracked a smile. I made sure to turn the phone around so the rest of the audience could see it. Since he liked it so much, during "Mandelbrot Set" I ducked my iPhone under the table and used Google Images to find a picture of a fractal, which I then waved back and forth. This definitely made JoCo grin when he saw it.

JoCo and Michael WoodThe best bit of the show, was when JoCo pulled up a member of the audience to help him with "Chiron Beta Prime". The kid who was brought up on stage, Michael Wood, was hilariously funny during the song and even "broke" JoCo. However, when it got to the point where he had to say "Message Redacted" in a robot voice, he didnt know the words or even that it was his turn to say something. It was so funny. (Picture of Michael and JoCo, courtesy of AntonOlsen)

Unfortunately as this was part way through the second set, we were picking and choosing which songs to record because we were running out of tape/batter power (If we had known it would have been a double set concert, we would have brought a second tape!). Therefore, [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith decided not to record Chiron Beta Prime because "It's a Christmas song and it's not Christmas time." Also because I don't think he likes it very much, even though I do. Therefore, unless someone else was taping the concert (or just that moment) it will not be up on YouTube. Much sadness.

After the show we hung around for a little while to see if JoCo wanted to come to [livejournal.com profile] noeticist's party, but he had a lot to do, so we left. But not before I got to take a picture with him:

This weekend [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I worked on the math materials boxes he's building for [livejournal.com profile] msfrizz's school. I sanded and painted finish on them. Nothing like finishing up the semester with 2 full days on your feet breathing sawdust and finish...but the boxes are all done, and that's what's important.

After we stopped working on Sunday I accompanied Aerith to his game. Got to see [livejournal.com profile] raenshadoe, [livejournal.com profile] last_bastion, noeticist, and meet some new people. I ended up crashing on the couch while they all fought a vampire.

On Monday I had my last day of work. It was nice and chill.

Last night we picked up [livejournal.com profile] crabes and headed out to noeticist's house for a Rock Band party. Oh, so much fun. I'm getting much better on the drums. I don't fail out now at all (on Easy). And [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith even sang a few songs (including Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld).

Today has been running errands day. Went to the Post Office, the Drug Store, and 3 different Hobby Lobbies looking for the clasps for the boxes. We now only need 4 more and I feel really good about how well I did driving on obscure roads so I could avoid the toll roads.

Well, off to run more errands and pick up [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith from work.

Falling over and going boom will have to happen later.

Was going to go out with Bubbles on Friday night, but george made me all cranky and crampy so I stayed in instead.

Saturday saw Aerith and I wandering to a few costume stores nearby to find costume pieces for me and to figure out a costume for him. Didn't buy anything but had some ideas.

Saturday night we had tickets to see Fefu and Her Friends at UT. Aerith was annoyed that they didn't cover up the nails that they used to secure the floor. :) The play was good. Interesting. Part II had us moving around to see 4 mini-scenes that were performed in tandem. They split us up by color tape on the backs of our chairs. It was interesting how each of the scenes had a very different feel/intensity. Got to love 60s-70s theatre. For Part III we were supposed to sit somewhere other than where we sat in Part I. I liked that. I think that every blackbox play should make people do that. It gives you a different perspective on things.

Today was spent running errands, which included going to two Targets and back to one of the costume stores, where purchases were finally made.

FireCat was supposed to call me so I could go work on my costume at her place...but she didn't.

And somewhere in all of that, I got some homework done, studied for my math test...and painted my fingernails black & gold because the Saints beat the Falcons!!!!

PS. I want to see the Pete Seeger documentary. Not sure if I'll have time until late next week.

Had a good birthday weekend.

On Saturday Aerith and I went to get some blood drawn (our dr. had ordered tests for both of us). The office was the comfiest, nicest blood drawing places I've ever been to. They had a big leather lounge chair for you to sit in when the blood was being drawn. The idea is that the chair makes the patient relax more. It worked. Talked up a storm with the woman taking the blood (sometimes I really remind myself of my mother).

After letting them take our blood, we went to Kerby Lane for breakfast. Sat outside, which was really nice. I ordered steak and eggs. Did some homework during the day and got a call from my favorite ex-b/f, who I haven't talked to in almost 10 years b/c we fell out of touch. Was AWESOME to reconnect with him again. For dinner we went to a hibachi place around the corner. I ordered steak and salmon. I guess I was REALLY in the mood for steak that day...

Sunday was full of relaxing and more homework. Also, a call to [livejournal.com profile] daobear to wish him happy b-day.

Monday night was Heroes watching. I am still happy with it.

Today was my "day off", which of course means that it's my day to get things done. I got a bunch of reading done, but it was hard because I wasn't feeling well all day.
I also went to get Aerith's car inspected, as the inspection had run out in August. It wouldn't start, so I went to the office and got someone to jump it. It jumped just fine and so I drove it to the inspection place around the corner. After sitting in the waiting room for over 1.5 hours, in which I finished all the reading I brought with me for school and was reading my novel, the guy came up to me and said that he couldn't get the car to start even with jumping it and so he couldn't inspect it. This is where Texas is different from Mass. In Mass that would have earned the car a great big R, where as in Texas, they just told me to get it fixed and sent me home.
After doing work for a while longer, my headache got the best of me and I ended up taking a 2+ nap.
Dinner was breakfast for dinner: eggs and bacon and hashbrowns. yum.

Of course, this whole not feeling well thing has put me behind on all the million things i have to do. I really want to go to TRF this weekend, but I have 3 major assignments due next week. I'm mostly done with one, partly done with another, and haven't started the third. I was hoping to start the third today, but the not feeling well & nap sort of took that away. Well...we'll see.

had a good weekend.

[livejournal.com profile] lordaerith picked me up friday after work and we headed home to take a nap. That night we went out to Elysium for A Tribute to Depeche Mode night. All Depeche Mode all night. It was fabulous. Got there early (10-ish) and found out that almost everyone there was either from my group of friends or from the poly group :). Since there weren't that many people there at first, I got decent chunks of the dance floor to myself. Yay. Got to dance with a little flogger - dancing with props is lots of fun. We left around 1am, when it was starting to get more crowed and smokey and my feet were really starting to hurt.

On saturday day I finally got to my math homework. Hurray. I loves the math! That night we went out to dinner with [livejournal.com profile] eliset and her crew for Indian. It was only okay (our waiter reminded us of a used car salesman), but the company was wonderful. Invited them back to our place bouncy bouncy for Guitar Hero and a walk to Amy's Ice Cream. Yay for cool people and a fun night.

On sunday I read lots and lots and lots for my classes. So much reading. And I worked more on my now in php online portfolio.

I've been meaning to post this all week, and I finally am taking a moment to do so.

Last Sunday [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith and I went to a BBQ/Pool Party at a friend's slightly sketchy apartment building. We had a ton of fun, with friends, food, a swimming pool and a frisbee. KM, the group photographer took pictures. Here are some of my fav ones from his set:

clicky for pics )

That night I went out with some of the group to Elysium for 80s night. I let my natural 80s hair show through, and got a TON of comments on it!

my hair is huge and awesome! )
